There weren't really a ton of factors that went into Curtis's creation, given that it was 1994 and I was only 10 or so. I was heavily into cats at the time, and while I wrote short stories describing their everyday lives as vaguely humanoid beings, it was Sonic and the Superfriends that inspired me to turn them into superheroes.

While they influenced Curtis to some degree, he derives most of his influence from Garfield. A fourth characteristic that the two of them share that I wasn't able to list here is a lengthy sarcastic streak.

Also, there's some key differences between Wildcat and Sonic where their respective Super Modes are concerned. Curtis's Nine Lives Emergence magnifies all of his abilities except for his physical strength by varying factors of 9 depending on his mindset, and he could stay in that Mode for as long as he wishes... with the caveat that he's left nearly-to-completely exhausted and/or comatose if he has to drop out for whatever reason. Since he can only sleep in his normal state, make of that what you will. By contrast judging from what I've seen of Sonic, his powerup lasts as long as his rings do, and he doesn't seem to suffer any real energy loss afterward.
