I wonder if any of these old concepts could've taken off like the Sonic we got did.
Perhaps one day SEGA will re-use these concepts (beyond the human thing, of course) and we can see for sure...
But I doubt that will actually happen. Due to constant fan "demand", we'll just probably see as many "Sonic 1 with HD graphics" remakes as they think they can get away with (or, as I like to call it, the Ocarina of Time Syndrome).

That chance would have been with Generations, which was a never ending sea of missed opportunities as far as fan service goes (or rather could have gone).

It was definitely fun, but was pretty lacking as far as nostalgia went. It was more nostalgic for newer Sonic fans than older.

Not so sure about that. Not many people were feeling nostalgic about Crisis City. Or Silver. Which annoys me, because SEGA seems to handle the existence of 2006 like an ostrich; sticking their collective head into a bucket of sand and the problem magically goes away. I hate it when they do that.
