Do you always start with a black and white base before adding colors? ( sorry I'm jut seeking out some tips to improve my art

Now I'm sorry for the noobish question, but I've noticed you post a couple of the same ones; ones with color, ones that are black and white. Do you draw everything black and whtie and then add color later by messing with your channels? Or is it an overlay of color that you put down? I've seen other artists use this method before, is it one that you prefer over regular airbrushing or painting (if the first guesses were accurate of course.)Β
