I thought the movie was great. It gave enough background so you knew what was going on, but didn't go into so much detail that you felt like you were being lectured to. The action in it was great, though the girl, Alice, sure did scream a lot. That was kinda annoying but accurate I suppose.

I see the movie as a showcase for an amazing character. The saya of B:TlV is one of the best vampires I have ever seen and never liked the 'reboot' they did of her personality in Blood+
That said, I'd really like to see more of this incarnation of Saya.

the 2000 animated movie is really awesome, I'd advice anyone and everyone to go see it.
the 2009 live-action film has "some" cheesy special FX and CGI with some terrible acting from everyone but Jun Ji-hyun (Gianna Jun, Westernised) who played Saya and did a really wonderful job. However, I nevertheless really enjoyed it and would recommend it to you because even with it's faults it's still very entertaining.

Yeah, the cover and concept sounded pretty cool, but to put it bluntly, it was shit. I mean sure the animation was fairly cool and visually it does what it needs to do. But in terms of storyline it pissed me off because it was such an abrupt ending and really wasn't driven anywhere. But by all means see for yourself but just thought I'd let you know.

I've only seen the trailer, but I can tell the movie deviates too much from the source material to be anywhere near as interesting and good as Blood.
Same thing probably applies to the upcoming EVA and Last Airbender movies.
If the americans ever, EVER make any movies out of anime, the original makers of the franchise in question MUST be included in the creative process. Otherwise the film will devolve into a diarrhea pile of pixels.

Yeah I didn't care for the anime movie... But the Live Action looks ALOT worse... They had it last week all week for Animation Week on OVATION TV (Sattelite/Cable Channel)... I hope the don't botch up the Live Action Movie... Great Artwork though! it's simply Amazing!
Speaking of Anime VS Live Action... I think the best one I saw was the Live Action film of Grave of the Fireflies... it closely represented the book ALOT better and had a ton of more information than the anime movie... ^_- I suggest seeing that one if you ever get the chance!

I loved the movie, hated the anime. In the movie Saya is a cold-hearted, awesome hunter, but in the anime she's a wimp and all she does is play damsel in distress. Not to mention that he animation of the movie is 100x better than the anime, in which they keep recycling scenes for their action sequences.

Well since the animated movie was done before the animated series, it is good. The reason why it's so short it's because it was a short film (with a limited budget) done by the then new studio, Production I.G. (made the anime series of Ghost in The Shell). This film helped launch the studio and now they make a lot of amazing anime.
