Description I haven't touched this account in years, but what the heck! I've done a lot of cosplay since then, so perhaps, if there's still an audience, I'll get back on the horse?Β
(Is there still an audience here? Let's consider this a test post.)
Β In any case, there are more than 200 origami birds in those wings, and I sewed the wig from yarn myself (and in this picture managed to get it tucked in my eyepatch by accident, ahaha). Every part of this costume is handmade, mostly because I wanted to pay homage to Laika hand-making all their beautiful pieces.

great work! I love the idea of origami aggregating as the wings!

How did you get the beetle pattern onto the fabric? Β I'm also looking into doing a Kubo cosplay and that is far and away the most troubling part of putting it together. Β That, and the beetle on the back.

I created a stamp out of craft foam and painted it gold between stampings. For the beetle on the back, I drew a pattern on another piece of paper, cut it out, and traced it before painting. I only have a blurry cellphone picture of the back, as when I wore the wings they mostly hid all that work from view, alas!

Thank you! It involved an awful lot of folding.
