Description this was the first photo i made with the new -- er, new to me -- rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II with the zeiss planar. i purposefully shot this wide open to see what it's capabilities were. in fact, i shot it right into the sun with no shade and i didn't flag the lens.

did pretty well.

my daughter was transfixed by this old box with two lens and her dad looking down at his waist. not like the rangefinders and slrs. much different.

cropped slightly but it's still square.

rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II. 1/125th at f/3.5. Metered incident light reflecting off face with minolta ivF autometer. agfa 100 (normal)

An eye is hidden by dog's ear. That's quite difficult to watch this picture because of this, you only see that missing part, but this picture is strange and original with this strange effect.

One of the most amazing things of being a part of this community is to find galleries like yours. I mean, it's full of fantastic photos, and i don't mean those showing celebrities (those too, of course, but not only those ).

This for example is a so beautiful photo. Specially liked the composition, the backlight and the doggy's ear covering your daugther's eye. This point is really important in my opinion to improve the photo. It may not be "perfect", but it shows naturalness, and i really love the natural poses.

So happy for discovering your gallery.

it's funny ... there's this other photographer ... thinks he's "the" photographer in los angeles ...

i said to him, "ya' know your portraits?"

"yeah!"

"they're good but they're missing something..."

"like what?"

"fucking life?"

he hates me.

thanks for noticing what's important!!!!!!

My favourite thing about this shot is the fact that the dog's ear hides half your daughter's face.

I don't know what it is about that, it just makes it a little more interesting for me!

i thought of it like a pirate's eye patch. it made me laugh...

and showed just how damn big those ears are.

did you know she (they) use them to dissipate heat?

I did not know that....

I can now check "learn something new" off of my to do list for the day!

cweeks In reply to princessmorgan [2005-10-04 18:46:27 +0000 UTC]

i didn't either until the vet told me the other day.

she had her yearly checkup (the dog) and said she's in perfect health.

but i did learn dissipation of heat concepts.

glad you have something to check off!

her ears are inordinately large, mate.

comparitively speaking, of course, when taking dogs of the same breed in to consideration.

thanks!

multix [2005-09-12 13:50:27 +0000 UTC]

heh.. rolleiflex 3.5, agfa 100 ... is cweeks learning from humble multix ???
Anyway, even if it is a TLR, therewas a special bajonet-mount sun hood for the lens. It has a cut on one side and fits only in one way and had a lovely leather case! I found mine when my grandfather closed his shop and cleaned up. And even small, it is effective.

cweeks In reply to multix [2005-09-13 00:18:37 +0000 UTC]

learning from humble multix? perhaps.

i'm just a purist and ... as such ... very much enjoy the simplicity of what photography used to be.

i have the baynet sun shade. in fact, the guy i bought the camera from included ALL of the available accessories. right now, however, the camera is at the techs so that it can be modified for 220 film.

love this camera!

got a new camera the other day, though.

an m3 double-stroke! beautiful condition.

cheers mate!

ah very nicely captured dude, very nice indeed. surely one to look back on in ten or twenty years recounting photographic stories with your daughter. real nice tones produced and the contrast is great given that you're shooting wide open, and into the sun... and didn't manage to flag the lens? nice!

Tis a beautiful shot bud !!!!
but..... im honestly shocked to see ya post a pic of your daughter
not that thats a bad thing or anything (just basing that statement off the few conversations we had in LA )

but regardless...im truly glad ya did
You captured her beautifully with that back lighting
im kinda impressed how well it actually turned out from the conditions you mentioned ---> but with that bokeh --> ya must be lovin that new/old cam!! ---> ( same prolly goes for your daughter too ) LOL
...just wondering whens she gonna make an account on DA too
i for one would love to check out some of her shots she's taken with some of your cameras

there are like 3 photos of my daughter strewn throughout my gallery.

i love backlighting. i know you know that i love backlighting.

1954 technology ... bokeh from hell ... the germans know what the hell they're doing ... always have.

my daughter ... and a dA account ... no. deviantartkids.com ... perhaps ... this friggin' place ... non grazie!

you like gummy worms?

hmm...

my dog makes me smile all the damn time.

would you get out of cowtown already ... you're going to start sporting spots ... or turn lesbian.

you take it easy as well...

cheers mate,
