Description i'm assuming the woman holding her is her mom. dunno. didn't ask. was just bitter i had to stand in line for a pretzel for fucking 14 minutes.

yes, i counted.

off topic: ya' know what sucks? many things. but ... sending a myspace message to someone you thought was someone else. adding someone you thought you shot a campaign with .. and it wasn't the right person.

back.

so ... people are so damn bitter christmas shopping. seriously. why the fuck do you do it? i'm happy when i'm shopping.

especially when i'm with "someone."

she and i like shopping.

we went christmas shopping -- even though we didn't know we were actually christmas shopping when we started -- for each other.

'twas fun.

that was rodeo and barney's though.

the next day we braved the A.D.D. Valley-ites in their soul-less acuras and lexuses and infinitis ...

on the phone, of course, talking shit about how a mutual BFF gained fifteen pounds and her husband is banging the neighbor.

come on ... christmas is about paganism, people.

dunno.

i just like giving people stuff.

but this day ... in that wetzel's pretzels line ... in line with my somone and my "b."

they got along swimmingly.

they formed a girl-team to beat up on me.

the lone male.

all good.

very happy about that, actually.

so ... very happy about many things.

yeah, it's a fucking smiley fucking face.

not a heart.

not that i don't like hearts.

i do. i do. i do.

swear.

but ... i was going to do an indepth "reaction" to the new leica M8 ... but ... i saw this one ...

and ... just wanted to share.

dunno why ... but ... i love photos of children and their parents.

not that i have like fucking abandonment issues ... much to the contrary ... if you know me.

you know where you can find me much of the time.

mom and dad's couch.

like it there.

and i hope this little girl ... clinging ...

grows to love her parents as much as i do ...

when she's much much older.

i hope.

that would be cool.

'cause so many of us ... don't get to see the people who created us ...

as much as they would like ...

just had an interesting conversation with "someone" ... my "someone" about creation...

i'm so happy she just lets me expound on my infinite theories.

she's cool like that.

... and ... i need to finish this fucking movie so i can give it back to my sis.

THIS IS A FUCKING DIGITAL IMAGE.

but ...

Leica M8. Summilux 35/1.4 (bastardized into some other focal length). 1/60th. f/1.4. 640 iso (i think and if i'm wrong some motherfucker will remind me)... SHOT IN LEICA'S B/W MODE.

footnote: i hate to say this (sorry, Sev and others) ... leica's b/w mode is abso-fucking-lutely ... brilliant. Brilliant. I said it. I'm beginning to like digital. and ... THERE'S NO FUCKING LAB-SCAN-DUST.

I was unaware there was such thing as a F1, thats fucking incredible!

I am however disappointed by the 0mm focal length. Was certain it'd be much wider

i'm faving this purely for the description.. everything.. about b and "someone" ganging up and about waiting for a pretzel for 14 minutes. you might as well have eaten it in the line itself.

but mostly for "
and i hope this little girl ... clinging ...
grows to love her parents as much as i do ...
when she's much much older.
i hope.
that would be cool.
'cause so many of us ... don't get to see the people who created us ...

i don't know why.. your posts just make me feel something that other posts don't have
you put so much heart into it
and feelings
and that's what makes it a photo
photos do say a million words but when you put up a photo and write about 150 words about it.. then it's priceless
i have nothing more to say mr weeks
but reading this has given me one of the nicest feelings i've had today

leica

I think people are bitter xmas shopping because of how expensive shit is nowdays, and how every year you meet more people, which means more gifts to buy, don't get me wrong I love giving, but London prices are silly. As part of my gift to my someone I've decided to paint one of his photographs that he loves the most onto canvas

As for the photo, I love how open to interpretation it is, so many thoughts cross my mind when I look at the girl, I think of what I think she is looking at/wondering, and I also think back to my own childhood. Love how you tell stories with images C x

to tell you the truth at first glance I didn't even noticed it was a digital camera !!

So in the field of view crop (FOVC) you have a field view of a 45mm lens... It is hard to get used to the FOVC at first... I was like very bitchy (I come from film) but later I got used...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cweeks In reply to eduardofrench [2006-12-12 20:56:07 +0000 UTC]

i love my newly bastardized 35mm lens!

takes a bit of getting used to ... but ... the framelines in the viewfinder equal what the cropped value of the lens is ...

it's really not bad.

in fact, it's much better than not bad...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

eduardofrench In reply to cweeks [2006-12-13 00:08:02 +0000 UTC]

have you tried it with the 50mm f/1.0??

I can see it isn't bad at all... impressive that a digital camera has such a great way doing B&W photos... are you tempted to keep it??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cweeks In reply to eduardofrench [2006-12-13 01:39:49 +0000 UTC]

i just did ... interesting.

tempted ... yes ... definitely ... i'm not the film-only snob some people are ...

but ... i do love film ...

and this damn machine ... oh my ... very nice...

Hope you can get one!

a M8?
Come on, Chris!
I can't believe it. In fact I read in the comments that's not your camera.
Anyway seems good. But I prefer my M6 and my Tri-X.

Maybe you'll write another "ode to the leica M" and and another "street-photography for the purist".

aahah, I really don't think so.

take care

ShadowDharma [2006-12-12 19:50:53 +0000 UTC]

damn! I really thought it was one of your film scans... commonly B/W modes suck, but this one... hell yeah!! I guess Leica did great job with the M8... xcept for the cropped sensor... bad thing... anyway... nice camera...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cweeks In reply to ShadowDharma [2006-12-12 20:10:48 +0000 UTC]

yes, they did ...

i'm caring less and less about the crop.

it is what it is ... and i'm not holding it against neither them nor the camera!

it's not mine but ... i get to evaluate it for a while.

it's a tool; sometimes it's wholly appropriate sometimes not.

a camera is a tool.

and i'm really beginning to like this tool.

the memory card is easier for many different reasons!!!!

the thing I like the most about this one is that you can feel how tired the kid is by the slightly messed up hair and look in her eyes (seemingly searching for a good place to nap), but she's got eternal strength to hold on to that bear, even at an odd angle for her... like there's just simply no other choice. And for kids and their stuffed whatevers, there's isn't.

It's a nice reminder.

I hope that was some fucking great pretzel, buddy!

mmmm good I prefer those classical designs, the M7 rewind knob seems weird to me.. my fav being probably the M3 and MP
got a Bessa too? I've considered getting myself a R2C (Contax bayonet mount) but finally I prefer sticking to my Kiev & classic Contax-III. I gotta deal with Mr. Gandy to buy him a CV SC-Color Skopar 25mm f/4 seems to be an outstanding lens
