As a big fan of Zach Hadel for a few years before Smiling Friends came out, I was really excited to see this show get made--and man oh man did it deliver! I really love cartoons that aren't afraid to feel like cartoons--something silly and playful that doesn't have a mountain of backstory and messaging to climb over before you can appreciate it. Also, in an age that feels like it's drowning in nihilism, it's deeply refreshing to see a show that tries in its own subtle way to communicate that life can still have meaning and beauty, even when it seems impossible or absent. Not since Harvey Birdman have I been so in love with an Adult Swim show!
