Description Just a silly little oneshot set in transformers prime.  Non canon of course!  It's a little rushed and it might be quite noticeable that this is my first time attempting to write with some of the chars..But I hope to do better in the future!

Game

It was quiet...Too quiet.  Smokescreen narrowed his optics as he crept down one of the silo's hallways, forcing himself to remain as silent as possible.  The fluorescent lighting overhead flickered ominously, clicking and buzzing loudly every time it did in a strange sort of death rattle; just about ready to completely give out or explode at any given moment.  Not a good sign for his purposes, since he needed a fair amount of light to successfully pull off his mission, and he didn't want the sound of the weak bulbs shattering to draw any attention to this section of the base.  He couldn't be found, not yet!

Scrap though, this corridor seemed to stretch on forever.  The rookie soldier wanted to groan out loud about how long this was taking, and that the sheer length he had to traverse just to get the upper hand might wind up being detrimental to his goal.  He wished he'd thought to grab onto the phase shifter before all this madness had started, that wonderful trinket certainly would have made this whole thing about ten times easier.  It would have been nice, considering the fact he was on his own here- none of the other Autobots were in any position to be helping him right now.   But, he didn't have it, so he would just have to make do.   Besides, he was pretty good at improvising in situations like these, wasn't he?  Surely, he could manage once without his trump card.   Yeah he could do this, no problem!

Invigorated and confident, Smokescreen took another step forward before hearing something familiar; something that made him stop suddenly as his processor struggled to fully attach the sound with something he knew and why it seemed so familiar.  It only took a few earth seconds for the solution to click- it was another Cybertronian, he was sure of it, and the only other one in the Autobot base he could think of that would be following his path was....

His bright, blue optics widened as he realized who it was.  No, he wasn't prepared to be found just yet!  He wouldn't give in so easily, not without some kind of fight first.  He just...Needed to put himself in a better position, if he wanted to last much longer.  His processor swarmed with thoughts, trying to produce the solution that would hopefully push him on to victory.  Oh, what would Optimus do?

Smokescreen's lips parted in a small, smug smirk as he believed he knew the answer to that- lead his pursuer into a false sense of security, let them think they were being sneaky, then blindside them at the last possible moment.  It was perfect!  But where to lead them to? The young Autobot glanced over one large shoulder again as the noise seemed to be getting louder, which meant his enemy was getting closer.  Unfortunately there wasn't a whole lot of time to lead them anywhere much further without running the risk of being overtaken, so the command and ground bridge center of the base would just have to do.

With a plan now in mind Smokescreen pushed himself onward faster, sacrificing silence for the sake of getting out of this confined area that much sooner.   He grimaced a little at the heavy thudding noise his frantic footsteps made, the other was sure to have heard all of that unless their audio receptors had gone bad.  But, considering the fact they'd been closing in on him, they would have found out he was there some way sooner or later.  At least in this scenario, it had been his choice to reveal his position and not the other way around.

"Come on, come on.."

Smokescreen pressed himself against the wall, tensing up as  the other pair of footsteps grew louder and faster, his assailant finally catching on to the fact he was getting away and quickening their own gait in order to try and prevent it.  The Autobot gave a cocky smirk as the noise grew the loudest it could, meaning they were going to be rounding the same corner any second.  It was just about time to make his move!  The soldier lingered only a second or two longer in the hopes of timing this perfectly, completely ignoring the odd sound that issued from the very same spot; just before he finally jumped back into the corridor to greatly surprise the bot who had been hot on his tailpipe the entire time.

"Aha! I-"

What had begun as a victory speech quickly dwindled into awkward, tense silence, as the mech found himself staring at nothing but an empty hallway.  He was sure of what he'd heard,  he hadn't been imagining things at all!  But then...How was this possible?!  Perplexed, Smokescreen stood there gawking, trying to figure everything out before the answer hit him like a ton of bricks.  His mind rewound to the noise he'd filtered out before attempting to make his move.  It had been very distinct, peculiar, and filled him with a sense of deja vu.  In fact, it reminded him a lot of...

"Scrap."

Realizing exactly what it meant, Smokescreen abruptly turned himself around, but it was too late; a slender orange, red, and grey-plated femme came leaping at him from around the very corner he'd been hiding at, tapping him on the side before he could even hope to fully react to his presence.  She wore a mischievous yet exuberant expression of her own as she recoiled and straightened herself out after the 'attack', placing one hand on her right hip joint haughtily.

"Tag, you're it!"

Defeated, Smokescreen slumped his shoulders and gave out a loud, disappointed sigh.  He'd almost had her!

"Awww c'mon Flareup, that's not fair!"  He whined, pouting at his smaller companion when he noted the phase shifter neatly wrapped around one of her arms.

"Why, because you didn't have this beauty?" She giggled in retaliation, holding her arm up and turning it at various angles experimentally to admire the marvelous piece of technology, before giving him a playful wink.   "But alright, I guess I can help you out.  I am a good sport, after all."

True to her word, Flareup removed the phase shifter from her arm and graciously handed it to him.  Smokescreen gave her a dubious look, almost expecting this to be some kind of prank of hers, but when she simply stood there smiling and nothing crazy happened or exploded when he attached the shifter to his own arm, he allowed himself to relax and smirked back.

"Well thanks, Flare."  He chuckled, stretching a bit as if he needed to loosen his joints before round two could commence.  "But you're gonna regret it, when you're it in the next few earth minutes."

The female Autobot snorted in laughter at his confidence.

"We'll see.  After all, you're going to need the phase shifter just to stand a chance of catching me."

"Is that so?"  Smokescreen questioned, feeling more excited and amped up by the second due to the way she was challenging him.  Though he liked all of the Autobots, Flareup was a lot of fun; every inch as excitable and wild as he could be, and he enjoyed that about her.  She wouldn't chide or lecture him, or point out when he was doing something everybody else thought was reckless or stupid- she'd be right there with him, or trying to cheer him up after he'd gotten an earful from everybody else.   They made quite the duo, that was for sure.

"Absolutely!" Flareup replied chipperly. "Without some kind of handicap, you'd be eating my dust."

Oh, he wasn't going to let her just get away with a remark like that.  He'd show her just how fast he could be, he could never pass up a good challenge.

"Well then if you're so fast, you won't be needing the same head start and chance to hide!"

Without further warning he charged forward, causing Flareup to give a childish squeal of excitement before taking off back toward the command center.  She wasn't lying about how fast she could be, she had managed to escape his grasp with only a few seconds of warning, but he wasn't about to give up- oh no, she'd be it again and soon, he would see to that personally!

"Will you two give it a rest?!"

....That was, if old killjoy Ratchet didn't completely ruin their game first.  Both Smokescreen and Flareup came to a dead halt in the center of the room as the medic snapped, finally having had enough of their antics.  He'd been patient with them for the first hour or so, but it was clear he couldn't take much more of their frivolous little games.  But what did he expect? The rest of team Prime was off on a mission, and he and Flareup had both been told to stay behind this time.  Nothing was going on at the base, and none of the humans were around.  Did he honestly expect them to stay put and quiet?

"Aw come on Ratch, lighten up!"  Flareup snorted in laughter, beating him to the punch.  "We're just having a bit of fun, that's all.  You're more than welcome to join in if you'd liiiike."

Ratchet spun around from the control panel, looking positively appalled by her suggestion that he participate in these childish games of theirs.  Smokescreen could barely contain his laughter, though once Ratchet turned his gaze to him and looked horrified by the fact he was wearing the phase shifter, his grin faded.  He could already feel the lecture coming.  Flareup it seemed, noticed as well, because she quickly shoved herself into Ratchet's line of sight and offered another beaming, infectious grin.

"We're not hurting anything Ratchet, just let us have some fun.  We'll put everything back, promise.  Firestar will really appreciate it if you let me expend this enthusiastic energy so she doesn't have to deal with it later."

Ratchet looked torn between being angry and flustered, though settled for grumbling something underneath his breath to her, before turning back to the work he had been busying himself with before.    Smokescreen arched a metal brow, curious as to what was going on, though he knew it had something to do with Flareup's sister.   But he wasn't sure whether Ratchet actually had a crush on the female medic, or didn't want her spreading that kind of thing around because he didn't.  When she approached him, he figured he might as well ask for at least some amount of information.

"Er, what'd the doc say?"

"We have to take this outside, for his sanity.   So...This is a perfect opportunity for us to race!"

Smokescreen was thrilled to hear that; he loved racing, the feeling of speed and power on the roadways....Being able to spend some fun, quality time with the femme before him.  He sure was one lucky mech!  Destiny seemed to smile quite favorably on him.

"You're on!"
