Oh yes, these are pretty. Love the Victorian feel of the center one with the black beads!

It's a tough competition, too. There is so much really cheap costume jewelry to be had (Sam Moon, World Market, heck, even Target or Walmart) for next to no money, being produced by some poor third-world kid for a bowl of rice, I've really pretty much given up. Friends always told me - oh, you need to sell that, make some money from it - but I've not posted anything on etsy for a long time, because the bracelets and necklaces always ran out of posting time and never moved.
I do make a fairly decent sale of bead patterns, and I do get the odd commission, but then I already know I produce for someone who WILL pay, rather than putting time and materials out there in the hopes that I might make a sale.

Oh I hear you girl. And your work is so much more time consuming and beautiful compared to mine. I started using Storenvy site for my stuff because it doesn't require me to pay .20 cents to renew and has more versatility in store design AND great tracking. I still have a few items on my Etsy, mainly the higher priced ones. But not sure for how much longer. I get more hits on my Storenvy shop. And it's FREE. LOL I would so put stuff in stores but the commission makes it not worth it in the end. Anywhere from 30% to 50% which means having to hike the price up past what people are willing to pay.
Patterns are a great idea! You may consider opening up a Storenvy site as well, can't loose anything in trying, it's free. LOL I advertise on FB with a "business page" and drop sales and links from there, then share them on my personal page as well. I get more hits that way and have a few people who will in turn share from their page. At least I'm getting hits. I sold stuff at Christmas time thru a friend of mine taking them to his work where the Doctors are buying for their wives. LOL I'll help "pimp" your store too! And I won't charge you commission!
Do you have a Face Book page for your shop? A personal page?
And yup, our competition is big warehouse markets who drive the sweat shops. I would so buy something from you, if I had the money to pay you what it's worth. And sadly I'm on a "walmart" budget because people won't buy my stuff either.

Sorry for the late reply. I've finally had a little time today to sit down with DA and update my journal and reply to folks. I did check out storenvy and they look pretty good. For not charging, I may set up shop there and see what pans out.
Unfortunately I am a total facebook slob. I have an account there, but rarely ever visit or post. Last year a whole bunch of folks posted on my birthday in August and I thanked them in October... Oooops!
I am on LinkedIn a lot for my job (business consultant), so my private networking takes something of a backseat. I pretty much just use DA, Etsy, and the consignment I have going at Beads on the Vine in Grapevine, but don't do much else to beat my own drum...
When I'm set up I'll let you know. May take me a few days since my husband's dad is staying with us right now, and work is rather crazy at the moment.

Hey, I understand... some people actually are lucky and have a life! LOL So how are you doing with your consignments? I know that I talked to them and it was a steep percentage so I would have to really mark it up to get what I want/need out of it and then no one would want to purchase it because of the price. No win there.

Meh, I am sorry to hear that. For the bracelets we negotiated a split where BotV take 20 and I take 90, which I was happy to live with, so I am sorry the offer they made you was not workable...

That is better than they offered me. Maybe because your items sell for more than mine would. *shrug*

Hm, maybe she tries to get something like $20 on every sale, so for some items that makes for a good margin, for others not so much. A friend of mine does a lot of small stained glass stuff, like little pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness, little fire engines, etc., fairly low cost items, and he seems to do well going to fairs and markets and having a small stall. I've never tried that, but he likes it. He's a real people person, and I think he digs talking to his customers...

That might be it. I know for me, my stuff runs in and around the 40-60 dollar mark, rarely much more, tho they aren't selling at that price so... who knows what I'm going to do, can't really lower the price much more because then I really loose out on my time, covering costs is not what I'm doing it for. *sigh* I need an "in" to a "venue" that is willing to pay a little more! I'm not able to use Sterling silver tho so that makes it even harder. If I were using sterling silver I would have to raise my prices way up! I use it when requested on custom orders, but that is about the only time I can afford to do it.
I'd love to do the fairs and shows etc, but transportation is always my problem, (and my health half the time too) but I'm a people person too, would be like him and enjoy talking to my potential customers. I guess partly because I want people to know what stones are use etc. I think it brings a greater appreciation to the piece when I can "sell" it with the details.
