This episode is an interesting one because it has a lot of stuff that works in its presentation but there are also stuff that brings it down from being great. The latter is mainly with the militia and especially their leader in how delusional they act. This whole time, they believe the feds are behind these attacks even though its more than obvious that its something else. And what's worse is that they even begin accusing one of their own for the attack and losing trust in them, even though they clearly aren't capable of it. Their leader is the worst case of this to the point that he comes off as a dick to both the cameraman and the reporter, who are the only ones in the human cast that I genuinely sympathized with. The militia is very delusional and quick to jump to conclusions, that a part of me was rooting for the beast to kill them. Speaking of which, the beast itself was quite the fearsome creature in how it attacks and sneaks up on the soldiers. While nowhere near as brutal as something like Devil Monkey or Yeti, the beast still displayed some brutality in its maulings and kills, especially when it attacks the second militia member and chucks a piece of him which hits the camera. The way it quietly sneaks and ambushes the soldiers is very creepy especially when others are unaware of it and makes its appearance very effective in the scares. While the beast is mostly obscured, when we see the beast, it has quite a fearsome and freakish design with its werewolf like aesthetic. The forest set at night is always a great setting for tension in the series and this episode is no exception. Also the music is pretty suspenseful and admittedly, the most suspenseful part of the episode is the scene when the cameraman is trying to escape in an abandoned truck but can't find the keys, a scene that doesn't even involve the beast. While this episode is severely flawed with a delusional and unlikable militia, it does still have good atmosphere, a great and scary monster, and a couple likable characters that still make this episode worth watching.

Score: 8/10

Next time is the final canon creature of Lost Tapes.

And isn’t a militia supposed to be levelheaded? At least one of the likable characters got out of there fairly unscathed and we don’t have to see the militia again.

Why couldn’t the Enigma Corporation return in this episode instead of the militia? They were genuinely likable and funny
