Gharupo was once a monk named Gharu Awang who lived in India where he discovered a mutagen puddle. He touched it and turned him into a humanoid gharial and as a result he got kicked out from his school. So Gharu traveled to New York to find a team of mutants and joined the Mighty Mutanimals.
