Eventually I remembered a character from one of my most favorite games, Quake 3 Arena and was pretty much surprised how could I forget him. 'Cause Bitterman looks exactly like asari with his squid-head, only male.Set during ME3; my Shep misses her horrible black lipstick and totally mad about it.

He is not the only one. OTHER male asari exist, with common skin colors for males being Red, Orange, Yellow, and Green. Their markings could be also compared to beards and moustaches.

I couldn't stop laughing after the second before I looked at the description, it crossed mysubconscious mind that, "Hey, looks like the Ranger from Quake II..." only to see it was completely intended.

He's human, it's just 1999 graphics make him look ugly. Those are supposed to be cornrows.
Also, he's the player character from Quake 2, so, yeah, human.

his background story is the Stroggs were performing experiments on him. Never heard of the 'Q2' theory until now (and in 90ies I was a big fan of the series), so it's supposedly later speculations which don't count either, huh?

No other signs of him being the protagonist? 'Cause the cutscene only shows that a drop pod with that name written on it was launched, technically that doesn't mean anything more than he'd been involved - and it doesn't contradict the q3 background story
