yep, this character's an exception-being the main villian in a story i'm working on-they're not all evil. But vampiric, yes. I came up with the idea after I was lucky enough to stumble upon some ancient Roman/Greek mythology about creatures called Striges and/or Strix, which is where the name comes from. These creatures were usually decribed as vampiric birds, with shrieking cries, which i based my corvidian race on.
i guess in some ways it's a bit like in stargate, with an advanced race of creatures that came you earth and were perhaps were the inspirations for the myths and beliefs of the time.

Ah, cool, but weren't they more like owls or something?

But still it's a nice birdie. ;>

hehe, and that i think that corvids seem more suitable for the role.

I don't really associate ravens with dark stuff... they are really sweet, cheerful and social birds. Nothing too vampiric about them, but I guess the color and everything may suit it. ;>

hehe, neither do i personally-i'm very fond of them too, that's why though my strige characters look like corvids, they are certainy are not at all like them at all, and why i don't in anyway refer to them as crows/ravens-they are much too noble and majestic to have any association with them.

yes, generally they were associated with owls-esp shreech owls, but it depends on where you read it, i've seached about them numerous times , and descriptions of them vary a lot, some sources say owls, whereas other have said birds of prey in general, crows and/or similar in appearance as harpies with part human features. i guess myths and legends are open to interpretation
