Dawnstar is a complete reimagining (from scratch) of the most basic layout of the Ambassador (Probert version) class ship, refit for the early 25th Century. Don't let her looks fool you, she has advanced ablative shield generators and a dual slipstream drive with advanced (regular warp) warp engines built-in as a back up. Newly designed sub-warp based impulse speeds make her one of the most-agile and fast conventional-space combatants. She is nimble yet strong like a ballerina, able to hit opponents quick and be in another position almost instantly before enemies can get a target-lock on her whereabouts. She may look like an older Ambassador on the outside but she is all new inside and can kick ass on extended exploration and scientific missions. She is one of the first "multi-purpose" vessels equipped with slipstream. Before Dawnstar, 99% of the ships with slipstream drive were full-fledged battlecruisers or warships. The Dawnstar harkens back to more of an extended-deep-space mission-capable ship in the tradition of the classic Constitution-class ships from two centuries earlier. To explore and conduct scientific investigations in unknown parts of space left unexplored or barely explored before.

It looks like the Dawnstar class to me. Google it, it's all over. Frankly, I can't see why; I never liked this ship.
Maybe it'll wind up growing on me, like the Intrepid did. I hated that ship, too. The Saucer Section (if you can call it that) always looked like an upturned spoon to me. After watching re-runs of Voyager, though, I got over it.
