Description An long overdue project, I started for class back in may at the nd of the winter '10 semester. It was suppose to be my final for one of my cg classes but I couldn't get all the shots rendered in time. and so I never got to edit it together in final cut pro. At the beginning of summer I tried to return to the project and I ran into allot of technical pit falls. First I had trouble loading the maya file. then it fine and I was able to render off a few more scenes. Then proof the file gets corrupted. To make an long story short I now can't even render out anything in mental ray or batch render any more of my scenes.

So now I didn't get all my shots I originally envisioned for the sequence. So I today finally decided to forget all my troubles with this project and finnish it. Welll I hope you guys enjoy it ^_^ !!!!!!

Made in Autodesk Maya 2010-2011, photoshop, and, final cut pro.

Well, Honesty I'm not sure what the focus is I was never really able to finnish fleshing out the story ahead because I ran out of time for the assignment and two my maya file had gotten corrupted so I can't even do anything with the project anymore unless I start from scratch. IS is why I was b[never truly satisfied with this piece.. . I just thought someone might like it.

And no I didn't just stick the butterfly onto an path, I manually went though and animated it one motion at a time. However I'm upset in this regard too. Because I kept having problems with the ragging of the butterfly. I wold the bones in the butterfly and add IK handles and the leg wouldn't move. and then When I finally fixed the leg and was able to make it movable, the rest of the ragging would stiffen up and not move anymore. Then I fix that and it kept going in cycles...... Gosh During this whole project I wanted to pull my hair out !!!!!!!!!! :anger:

Thats why when you watch the animation the butterflies leggs never move.........

Maybe one day I will come back and do it all again with a more fleshed out story.

i had a proble like tat with my sort film and with this suit of armor i made cos all the plates where parented or constrained. the one part that i tried to skin was the leather straps so they would bed with some parts of the movement of the plates but for some reason when i skin those straps it made my arm plates freak out so i just removed the skinning cos it was not too noticable i hope

lol and the one time i as i saved the power went out so all the work i spend doing that say gone cos it corrupted the file -.- but luckly i still had an older version of the scene backed up on my flash drive still lost hours of work sucked ass...

plus i had some many problems i never got to finish it as a short film it become like a 30 second trailer for a short film.

riggin my was biggest pain ion my final year this year.. a motion path can give some extra control and save some time too dose not help if the butterfly was hovering but the scene is pretty i like that. and the legs not moving i dont really notice too much . but still makes me wonder what went wrong ....were you skinning all the mesh to the joints ?

Oh my, I'm glad I'm not alone . I guess i can go ahead and look up how to do motion paths and try them. I've never really tried it before, and yes I was skinning all the joints vs parenting them to the butterfly. Which my instructor at the time said give a more mechanical movement vs skinning.

yeah nyo sure what went wrong with mine but yeah there are always thinks that go wrong in 3d but there are always many way to do things and try get around things. i love it though it can be a pain in the ass and yes constraining is best for mechanical stuff cant really make a character like that unless he was made out of parts.

You might want to pay attention to how butterflies flap their wings and how the move. This is more of a bird-like movement and it doesn't make much sense.
