Description Extension of my original fenstoke study

Was surprised to realize I got a lot of support for my creatures cross platform, thank you all! It’s really encouraging to see people interested in my ideas. The fenstokes are just a little creature in my Shadow of the Red Sun project, but they’re still fun little guys! Here’s some more little doodles that didn’t quite make the cut.

USE AS COURIERS:
Fenstokes are genuinely regarded as very low intelligence creatures, so efforts to train them are seen as a waste of time and resources. However nowadays that the struggles of the post-RSE are almost over and the renaissance in full swing, individuals have the time and resources to explore different avenues of commerce. Before the RSE fenstokes were regarded as pampered pets for the wealthy, but now startups across the arid circle seek to use the abundant animal as a means for delivering letters in areas where electricity is hard to come by. They’ve proven cheap and reliable, at the cost of many hours training and selecting adequate stock. Very few fenstokes show the aptitude needed for jobs as service animals, but those that do do so with such reliability that breeding programs have arose in order to capitalize on the animal’s labor. This particular individual’s name is Hunny, she is a mutt swordswane. In trial runs she has shown to be able to travel up to 4 miles in a day and delivery with 89% accuracy. She will fetch a good price for her trainer.

BEHAVIOR:
Fenstoke lack a lot of complex behaviors that you might expect from an animal.
When curious, likely about a smell or possible food, they will rear up on their back wings to try to better locate the location of the curiosity. They will not do this if they feel threatened.
When scared, fenstokes will will lie flat on their stomachs with wings and front arms splayed to the ground. Some might emit a low pitched warning hum in this posture.
When threatened fenstokes will take the opposite posture to a curious one. They will pin down their front limbs and lift up their back wings in an attempt to look bigger than they are. This behavior may also exhibit wing flapping and a high pitched hum.
Some fenstokes have learned that showing affection towards intelligent animals earns them cuteness points that can sometimes be redeemed for food. Typical “appeal” gestures include head tilting, pupil dilation, and short high pitched mews. When especially comfortable they may show genuine affection, such as climbing and resting in apparel, shielding you from the sun, or wrapping their necks around your neck as a sort of hug.
