Yea I figured, I frickin love this game! Maybe it's because of their attire, or the fact that they kinda look bald and bearded? You could try and make their heads a bit more spiky and disproportionate, I know that's gonna be really hard since it's an 8-bit drawing.
The lava blood and weapons give them away though. but in any case, this is pretty cool so great job!
