Description
In the centre are of course the kahili and paddles, but also a red triangle, which represents a vulcano, which in turn represents tūtū Pele, a very important Hawaiian deity who is said to have created the island. The colours are traditional: green for the land ('aina), red for blood (koko), and yellow after the colors of the feathers used in sacred capes of the 'ali'i.
