Brand Sabrewulf

In memory of Brand Shovlar, a true son of Fenris.

This truly was the hardest artwork I’ve ever made. I’ve been asked by an amazing group of people, Brand’s Great Company, to do a very special commission. Brand Shovlar, a 12-year-old Space Wolves fan has been battling cancer since September of 2017. Brand went through months of chemotherapy and things were looking good, until a recent CT scan revealed that there were multiple tumors on his brain, and he was diagnosed as terminal. After I’ve been contacted a couple of days ago, I dropped everything I was working on to make this for him in time, but sadly Brand had passed away on April 7th, 2018.

In the fall of 2017, a Facebook group called Brand's Great Company was started to organize efforts amongst 40k fans to send Brand painted miniatures, books, and other gifts to lift his spirits. They also passed on words of encouragement through his family, who remained an active and integral part of the group throughout its existence. This piece will go to show Brand’s family and the rest of the world how Brand appeared to everyone in Brand's Great Company: they will see him as the great Space Wolves warrior he really is. Hail to Brand Shovlar! May his memory never be forgotten!
