Description

... is where the secrets lie.

I've been having a really bad spell with my work lately, but I kept working on it despite feeling hopeless at times. I think I'm slowly getting back on track.

I hope all my US friends are having a great Thanksgiving, just make sure to wear stretchy pants

Amazing work! I think you blended it together really well . Can I ask how you used the textures? Like did you overlay it onto the background or? The area on which the model seems to be standing doesn't seem like the original background so in wondering how you achieved that nice detail in that area. Thanks have a nice day

The textures in this one were used mainly for the background, and to give the fog a bit of texture. The model is actually standing on the background image, I just played around with the tones on the lower part of the dress to blend it better with the ground. I also used the shadows from the surrounding trees to get a feel for what the girl's shadow should look like if she was actually standing in the woods. You can see a bit of that texture showing through in the foreground portion of the fog, which spreads from left to the right of the image.
Thanks for your question, and I'm glad you like the image!

First thing I thought of was: "Don't you shush me!" Lol I've been meaning to ask, how long do you normally spend working on images like these? The level of detail is impressive and I feel like these would take you ages to complete. Maybe I'm just projecting because I take forever with mine.. Awesome work

Thank you very much!

It depends, really. I usually have a fixed idea in my head that I want to mirror as accurately as possible in an image, so it takes a while to find the right stock I can use and figure out the right way to combine it all. Sometimes I'm lucky and already have a bunch of suitable stock saved, other times I need to browse for a long time before I find the right thing. I started this one on the 18th, but I didn't finish it until yesterday. Sometimes it takes less time, other times a lot longer (I started The Ever Watchful Guardian in 2012, I think, but didn't finish it until this year).
If I wasn't working with a mouse it would probably take me less to put the initial concept together but I'd spend a lot more time on the detailing, so all in all it takes a few days at least.

I don't know how you manage to do anything with a mouse. That's just mind boggling. I can't even use colored pencils this is great, keep at it.

It's not entirely without it's downsides. I get carpal tunnel syndrome almost every single time I finish one of these, and it takes a couple of weeks to get it back to normal again. Guess pain is one of the prices I have to pay for keeping the dream alive.

Thanks again
