The textures in this one were used mainly for the background, and to give the fog a bit of texture. The model is actually standing on the background image, I just played around with the tones on the lower part of the dress to blend it better with the ground. I also used the shadows from the surrounding trees to get a feel for what the girl's shadow should look like if she was actually standing in the woods. You can see a bit of that texture showing through in the foreground portion of the fog, which spreads from left to the right of the image.

First thing I thought of was: "Don't you shush me!" Lol I've been meaning to ask, how long do you normally spend working on images like these? The level of detail is impressive and I feel like these would take you ages to complete. Maybe I'm just projecting because I take forever with mine..

It depends, really. I usually have a fixed idea in my head that I want to mirror as accurately as possible in an image, so it takes a while to find the right stock I can use and figure out the right way to combine it all. Sometimes I'm lucky and already have a bunch of suitable stock saved, other times I need to browse for a long time before I find the right thing. I started this one on the 18th, but I didn't finish it until yesterday. Sometimes it takes less time, other times a lot longer (I started The Ever Watchful Guardian in 2012, I think, but didn't finish it until this year).
If I wasn't working with a mouse it would probably take me less to put the initial concept together but I'd spend a lot more time on the detailing, so all in all it takes a few days at least.

I don't know how you manage to do anything with a mouse. That's just mind boggling. I can't even use colored pencils

It's not entirely without it's downsides. I get carpal tunnel syndrome almost every single time I finish one of these, and it takes a couple of weeks to get it back to normal again. Guess pain is one of the prices I have to pay for keeping the dream alive.
