Bumblebee is the shit. :3Well not really, but all the other Transformers have names like "Starscream", "Blackout", "Ironhide" and "Bonecrusher." So what the hell happened with Bumblebee??
I felt I had to draw him in all his bee-like adorableness. xD

What? Yellow jackets will mess your shit up! They sting AND bite, and tend to be more aggressive than wasps. (Though a wasp's sting is much more painful.)
But nah, I get why they chose Bumblebee. But it is still a little strange, when you really think about it. How'd he get that name? Do they have bees on Cybertron? Or did it, you know, just so happen that he landed here and his name had sudden relevance? xD

Well, Cybertronians have a diffrent language than we do. Some words in our language translate to other meanings. For example, in the Pokemon universe, "Jhoto" means tree stump.
So maybe Bumblebee means something else to them. Like Optimus Prime, I don't think we have a meaning for "Optimus" do we?
All names have a meaning, mine means "Pure" in one language but that's not my name.

Well that's what I meant by "sudden relevance." Like it didn't mean "bumblebee" on Cybertron, but it does now that he's landed on Earth/his name has a meaning in English.
Anway, I kinda get the feeling you were looking WAY too far into my comments/posts. Trust me, over the past 5 years, I've already thought of/considered everything you've mentioned. This art is A) very old and B) just meant to poke fun. It's not super cereal, guys. I just like bees and like messin' around with things.

beside the obvious, "it was a yellow bug," I think bumblebee was named because of his overall role.
He's not a heavy unit, he's a scout, compared to the others his weapons are bee sting light.
He's also earns the bumble of his name by often getting into trouble that requires the other Autobots to come help him blast his way out of.
finally bumblebee as you pointed out is the least aggressive sounding name, great for the main Autobot the audience follows on screen.
