During our big hike through the Drakensberg area I sometimes felt like in an otherworldly fantasy world with dwarfs, elves and dragons.It is said that the early Dutch settlers gave the mountain area the name Drakensbergen or "Mountains of Dragons" because of the pointy peaks along the mountain ridge, looking like the back of a dragon or because of old local myths of dragons roaming the mountains.
In fact our local guide told us that as kids they've been told by their parents that dragons roam the mountains as a means to keep the kids from strolling in the mountains.
The image was taken in the Ntonjelana Pass area during an epic morning with a beautiful inversion which was about to disappear when I took this shot.
However, I'm very happy with the shot because it contains all essential elements which make the this area unique for me, the epic and characteristic cliffs, the regular inversions and the hard and pointy grass.
