My first visit to The Forks (and the Forks Market) in this new year.
I'm standing just outside the east side of the Forks Market, and it looks like an ample amount of fallen snow—as well as an ample amount of smoothed ice—here at The Forks as its Winter Park welcomes back ice skaters young and old, singles, couples and families.
Off to the southern edge of Winter Park lie three more new warming huts (one of them has proved a familiar family fun place)....
Actually, none of them are new, we just only see them around here in the winter months!
One of three warming hut international design competition winners from 2019—produced by Winnipeggers Jennie O’Keefe and Chris Pancoe: Huttie.
Huttie is Winnipeg’s anthropomorphic warming hut destined to delight both the young and old. Inspired by the retro cult children’s TV series H.R. Pufnstuf , river trail visitors will be transported into Huttie’s technicolor splendour. Once inside, visitors are encouraged to relax and seek warmth on a plush gliding tongue while taking in the psychedelic cascading interior on its mouth. Huttie - it’s your friend when the weather’s rough!
