WARNING: Controversial stamp ahead! Before I begin running my mouth, I'm going to tell you that I have nothing against atheists, so don't feel like I'm discriminating against you. This is just something that I feel very strongly about. I'm not going to allow comments for very obvious reasons.

I feel like these days, people act like that you have to be atheist, agnostic, or otherwise irreligious to support LGBT rights. As a Catholic who not only supports LGBT rights but identifies as bisexual, this attitude really annoys me. Religion and LGBT rights aren't mutually exclusive. Statistics show that many American and European Christians are in favor of LGBT rights. For example, in America there are more Catholics who support same-sex marriage than those who don't. (Support for LGBT rights is also high among Christians in other developed countries such as Canada and Australia, as well as certain countries in Latin America.) Also, LGBT people have a wide variety of religious beliefs. Among American Jews and Buddhists, numbers for support of same-sex marriage are similar to those of nonreligious people. There are also plenty of churches that allow same-sex marriage, mostly among mainline Protestant denominations. There are plenty of LGBT Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and other religions. In fact, LGBT people are well-represented in neopagan religions such as Wicca due to many of them being supportive of same-sex unions.

LGBT people can have any religious beliefs they want - if they feel happy being Christian, don't go and tell them that they can't be Christian. We have freedom of religion in this country. Also, believe it or not, there are atheists who oppose LGBT rights. It's actually pretty common for communists, especially in countries like China, to be against LGBT rights because they see homosexuality as "bourgeois" (which is silly because LGBT people come from all social classes). It's also very common for alt-righters to be atheists. Although I do acknowledge that there are some anti-LGBT atheists who are just regular people who happen to be homophobic.

So there you have it. Just because someone is Christian or some other religion, doesn't mean they're automatically against LGBT rights.
