Yeah, still trying to work on the concept of what the town is like.

Basically, it's a small coastal town that's rapidly growing into a modern/high-tech city. It started roughly six years prior when a corrupt FIET exec built a small off shore complex out in the bay (yes, that would have been Jonathan Lansing from the second chapter of Gathering of Players). Then, over the next few years, Blaine, Washington experienced a massive wave of "refugees" who fled their shithole cities and, because of their money and influence, were able to rename the city Avalon Bay (so America has two cities of rich and affluent assholes with the same name, one on each coast).

These "refugees", as you might have guessed, are from places like LA, Portland, San Francisco, New York...and have wasted no time in making Blaine into a place similar to "back home" (and into the shitholes they left behind because of their policies). A generous bribe...er...donation to city council member Dick Maye insured his mayoral victory and he has wasted no time in changing the city's name and making sure it is will be a "shining progressive beacon and a gateway to OUR future."

Needless to say, the locals don't like it. This is reflected in the clashing styles of "progressive new high-tech" and the original and historical structures throughout the town.

And honestly, my 'verse is fictional. I just happen to be getting inspiration from certain events that happened in the last few years and working some of those elements in my stories.
