This one is made for your friend's specifications (Repeating sidearm + Grappling hook + Bladed melee weapon) using RWBY as inspiration.Here's my reasoning for why someone would want a "vibroblade" (itstotallyalightsaber) AND a chainsword. The vibroblade is for cutting down soft and lightly armored targets, while the chainsword is more suitable for tearing through tough armor plating and the like. Strong chitinous armor, like the kind found in some abominae and leviathans which, if LONGPAN's intelligence is to be believed, is used for dissipating the heat of Phoenix Naptha/Oil and vibroblades and can even self-repair under heat duress is unsuitable for vibroblade use. However, these defenses can easily be rent asunder by the use of miniaturized Liquid Flouride-Thorium/Aetheric Reactor (LiFT-AR) powered ferromagnetic (i.e. Aethero-magnetic) chainswords.
