Biotek Bonesuits represent one of the greatest biological and technological marvels of engineering. The field of science known as Biomancy has created a hybrid of specially grown strain of organic life forms crossed with nano-material sciences. Biomancers shape these into a wearable suit. This suit, sometimes referred to incorrectly as a 'Parasite-suit', or simply a 'Bonesuit', is standard issue for members of the Exna fleet 'Purity'.

The most basic form of the Biotek Bonesuit provides basic ballistic protection from shrapnel and small caliber rounds (7.62x54R or  .458 Lott) while providing for a sealed environment in event of exposure to vacuum.
The muscle of the Biotek organism supplements its owners' own strength, allowing an exponential increase in strength and endurance. This is useful in both combat and non-combat situations.
The most revolutionary function of the Bonesuit is its ability to resuscitate its owner from nearly all wounds if given enough time. Doing so for 'fatal wounds' typically can take 34 cycles, with much less time for less significant wounds.

Because the Biotek Bonesuit is a living organism, it requires nutrient infusion at regular intervals to remain healthy and to ensure its functionality is unhindered.

Higher levels of Biotek suits are simply refereed to by numerical designation, from zero (pictured far left) to three (pictured far right). The Biotek organisms that make up higher level Bonesuits provide additional functionalities  to aid their owner. The major additional functions are listed as follows.

Level 0 - (SKIN) capabilities listed above

Level 1 - (EXO) Chromatic carapace to provide additional protection against impact and piercing damage to owner. Mag latch points for gear storage.

Level 2 - (EVA) Advanced optical organs. Additional layered chromatic carapace for enhanced protection. Type 1 gravity field generator and paired heat sinks, allowing the owner to modify her own local gravity field. Tentacles to aid in null-gravity maneuvering and manipulation of objects surrounding the user. Tentacles are coated in a molybdenum infused neurotoxin to aid in capture of organic targets.

Level 3  - (MBT) Hardened chromatic carapace to provide a nearly impenetrable protective surface. Type 2 gravity Biotek organ to provide manipulation of local space. Number of tentacles are increased.

And gotta love the tentacles, so useful and fun to use.

Awh yisss, organic living armour concept is my favourite! I really like how you've incorporated the tendril/tentacle appendages here. Awesome colours combinations, theres a weird saturation that is most intriguing. The weapons are a nice touch, they seem like they were fun to design : D

Daemoria In reply to Keihaas-Art [2015-07-10 23:39:18 +0000 UTC]

The weapons were illustrated here -> Late-Darkwar Armaments 01

Yes, the saturation is deliberate. The entire 'Bright Future' setting is built around enriched use of color and light. I was fed up with sci-fi being either gritty mud soaked brown fests, or sterile white/grey pieces of blah.

Biotek is my way to break away from the Spess Mahrines that you see everywhere nowadays. An organic technology that represents humankind's insatiable lust for development.

Make it bigger, stronger, faster, and put a built in sentient laszser canon that the augmented can use on their own when they think real hard about. Just don't overuse it like a crutch that final fantasy has used with their „Magitech” ideas. They're famous for their magitech stuffs

Daemoria In reply to Keihaas-Art [2015-07-11 02:37:57 +0000 UTC]

The actual capabilities of the Biotek are really quite limited by physical laws and logical progression of technology (given ~7 millennia of growth). The combination of genetic manipulation and advanced materials technologies (nano-scale engineering dickery) limit these to something still reasonable. The natural tech growth of a civlization during that length of time tho leads to some fantastical developments ( complete understanding and control of gravity is one example), but the best part about trying to craft a solid setting, is to keep it all grounded.

Of course, I also have the opposite.

Metatek (ya, sounds similar to Magitech, i know, but i know next to nothing about FF games, so its a coincidence) on the other hand approaches and breaks the barriers of technology/causality/ and sanity. The actual contact with these bits of technology is akin to explorers on the Plateau of Leng, to see the truth of these entities, check your sanity at the door. Megalith Aten-neb and the other Metatek entities are not something you want around your Capital city , planet, or galaxy .

That is so meta. I like your take on the expended capabilities beyond typical futuristic technology. They are proud of their discovery and would never call it magic or magick, because that's such an archaic term! So they evolve in etymology and decide to give their technology beyond technology a unique name. Excellent : ) Sorry, I've been replying to a hella lot of these comments and my brain is frying and so are my dextrous girl hands.

So... Those tentacles, they can be both body appendages of the character and a separate set of weapons in the Bonesuit? I mean, the nude version of the characters:   has some tentacles, and the Bonesuits here also have tentacles, so the question of the day is: where do those tentacles come from? From the armor, or from the character itself (or does it depend on the individual)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-02-21 21:49:47 +0000 UTC]

The tentacles are implants on the actual person, that's just another appendage for them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kiborg-Graph In reply to Daemoria [2015-02-22 09:57:38 +0000 UTC]

And the person can extract/retract them as one wishes? You know, because I saw some of the Laughing Swarm characters with and some without tentacles, and now I'm confused about whether they all have such appendages, or does it differ from individual to individual?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-02-22 13:46:26 +0000 UTC]

It varies from person to person. Most rely on Bonesuits to provide tentacles, but some decide to get implants.

Kiborg-Graph In reply to Daemoria [2015-02-22 18:58:27 +0000 UTC]

And... Are there any general patterns for the names of these futuristic characters? It's just that I'm currently producing a verbal throwup writing a short story about the first contact taking place on Jaunā Zeme, and I don't know, if you're into such stuff, but it's a bit romantic, too (after seeing all that war in Ukraine 18+ footage on YouTube lately, I'm afraid I won't be able to draw wars again; it's just too terrible for me to see all those victims and the overall hypocrisy of them poliTICKs and politicians).

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-02-23 00:58:54 +0000 UTC]

There are several stipulations before a crossover is made between your setting and mine... the actually universe where this would take place is an artificial creation of Metatek Aten-neb .

The actual inhabitants of this artificial bubble universe are all individuals/planets/solar systems that were destroyed by Aten-Neb's fleets, and recreated as a way to pass the time.

I say this, because the crossover setting is a separate reality from my core (before Aten-Neb destroys the universe) universe, and Ots/Aiers/etc settings. This prevents tech from leaking back into other people's settings, and giving a bit of a jump-start to their war-making (understatement of the millennia).

---

That said. I use this to generate names. I use several names strung together to create a decent sounding entity.

Kiborg-Graph In reply to Daemoria [2015-05-11 16:00:08 +0000 UTC]

A late reply is late, but I couldn't help wondering all the time: if Aten-Neb destroyed the universe, wouldn't it mean that everything inside this said universe (including those, who created and used Aten-Neb to destroy the universe) would get destroyed as well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-05-12 23:04:33 +0000 UTC]

Aten-neb doesn't exist in slowspace, what you see of the framework hull is essentially the tip of the iceberg, as the expression goes.  As you can see here fav.me/d8ho2q0 , and here fav.me/d8g8b2p there is a bit more going on with Aten-neb than what can probably explained in one or two simple comments. Aten-neb is one of the major keys to the setting as a whole, and is actively being developed.

Looking at the entire vessel has adverse effects on the human Psyche, similar to nearly all other Metatek entities. This is why most Metatek entities are kept inside the Mirror, and away from all sentient minds.

Oh... Then I suppose there's no point in me posting the story, as it would only make more confusion (heck, I sometimes confuse things in the Aiers/Ots setting as well). Maybe for the shits and giggles I could share the story with you personally, but I'm afraid this whole universe destruction business is too complicated for my commoner's brain.

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-02-23 05:29:52 +0000 UTC]

I just didn't want you 'infecting' Ots with tech from thousands of years in the future, that's why i mentioned the bubbleverse.

If you want to do a one-off story, go right ahead. I really would like to see it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

Kiborg-Graph In reply to Daemoria [2015-03-10 17:58:57 +0000 UTC]

A late reply is late, as well as my brain sometimes being slower due to the overwhelming blastwaves of university assignments, but I just wanted to ask another small detail: since the Laughing Swarm is already present in Ots, according to your own works:     (because if they weren't there, where did the Klein-Shine and Kasparov fleets appear from?), isn't there the possibility of some LS tech/operatives falling captive to enemy, or the LS use German WW2 tactics (damaged vehicles are to be blown up; any captured personnel is to swallow a cyanide pill) to not to let it happen? Because in battles and wars, some tech/weapons/equipment inevitably falls into the hands of the opponents (because if it didn't, I doubt we would ever have the AK-47).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-03-10 19:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes, a very small number of the Laughing Swarm is in Nebulosa Ots. Initial counts were 2 Caravels, 5 Hammerheads, 30 Silkas, 3 Mimics, the Red Horizon, and a certain Prototype Super-dreadnought. Some of these vessels have been lost, but they have not fallen to enemy hands.

---
So far there are no deaths/captured personnel. The very nature of the Laughing Swarm's extra-dimensional travel means their encounters are of their choosing. If the odds are not in their favor, they simply don't engage the target.

The Mimic on planet Bunnya was transported to the Mirror when its gates were activated, so no debris from there.

There is a couple dead Silka corvettes currently floating in space in the Terran system. But that's in the middle of a war-zone, the window of opportunity to seize technology hasn't opened up yet.

There was some residue of melted Biotek left on goeliath 's flagship when they were invaded, but the research benefits that the paste gave to his factions were minimal. The research teams were later hunted down by a Laughing Swarm vessel, and purged.

--

A Bowrifle is not a AK-47. It's a specifically designed, semi-sentient piece of technology, and weighs ~1,500 kilograms loaded. Attempting to replicate the tech is simply out of the realms of possibility for Ots currently. You'd also have to have separated the Bowrifle from its user to even think of looking at it in any detail, no small task.

--

Attempts to steal from the Laughing Swarm/their tech is not to be encouraged. Mainly because Ots is not my setting, and the introduction of tech 6000 or so years more advanced would just completely upset the setting Shabazik has created. The temporary introduction of the Laughing Swarm is 'balanced' by the fact they are temporary in nature, limited in number, and completely chaotic... not truly favoring one side or other.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Kiborg-Graph In reply to Daemoria [2015-03-10 19:49:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I see. The example of the AK-47 I mentioned because Kalashnikov (may he rest in peace) made his legendary firearm on the basis of the German-made Stg-44 assault rifle. But good golly, 1,500 kilos? And, if I understood correctly, the bowrifle is just about as big (albeit bulkier) than an ordinary sporting bow: depositphotos.com/12574808/sto… ? Then that must be some dense stuff they're made of.

Anyways, I highly doubt I'll be able to contribute anything much to the setting of the Laughing Swarm, since I am not all that great at drawing ultra-futuristic stuff and it is sort of "back to 80's" at Jaunā Zeme currently, and stuff is being pretty peaceful there at the moment, even shik rebellion-wise: we're expressing our contempt to Kasparov and WK.CORP via protest rock music, like this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc1ObU… (I'll later make the lyrics more fitting to the post-war setting of Jaunā Zeme).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2015-03-10 19:58:11 +0000 UTC]

Yea, the unloaded Bowrifle (I probably should have specified that) is only a few kilograms. The recursive crystal blocks they use for ammunition manufacturing contribute to the weight. Shit's got to be dense to be able to fire 4.6million rounds each, and there are two such crystal blocks.

The overall setting of Bright Future isn't just the Laughing Swarm. I'm focusing on their story, because it extends throughout the entire time line...but there are millions of other stories to be told.

Well, at least I'll now know, what to include and what not to include in my further works regarding The Bright Future, if there will be such later on.

The story is halfway done, although it does involve some interaction between the characters of your universe and those of Ots - I think I might finish it when I'll get home today from my university.
