I don't think you needed to interpret it at all. :L It is all based of a short story called The Veldt by Ray Bradbury.
The happy life with the machines is not a world that Joel Zimmerman thought up, but a house populated by a family that have dedicated their entire lives to being controlled and maintained by the machines of a technologically advanced house.
But I liked this none-the-less.

Oh gosh I knew the story ages ago before Joel made the song. I liked the story a whole lot and this made my day the first time I heard it.
It was for a contest and this was my favorite song at the time (still is kinda) and I had to do something different then what the artist intended the song for. But I still wanted the dreamy-come-to-life nursery feel to it c;

I know what you mean. I'm British so The Veldt isn't compulsory reading in schools. I only read it for the first time after hearing Zimmerman's tribute to it. I'm glad I have read it though, I love it.
