I believe that the biggest of dreams, sincerest of wishes originate not from our hopes but from our fears, as only the danger of losing something makes us realize what it is that we truly desire.As we grow older our attitude, priorities and aspirations change. With time some dreams will fade and new ones will appear.
Each of the four creatures symbolizes a dream of mine. And now I wonder - what will be the fifth?

I intended this piece to be meaningful on many levels. Aside from the personal content I tried to hide behind the symbols, the looser painting technique embodies a style I always aspired to, yet never managed to fully employ in any painting. Lastly, I hope the piece brought to you thoughts of Salvador Dali⦠Temptation of Saint Anthony hangs above my desk and is always a great inspiration in times of need.
Done in Painter 6 and Photoshop CS in around 70 hours with some ref help. I will post a link to WIPs/closeups and the like soon

Wow. So, I commented on this back at the beginning of 2010, completely forgot about it because I didn't have a computer so was rarely on deviantart, just saw this again today and realize I had a pretty epic (to my life at the time) dream based off this in July 2010. It's just weird to see this and realize that one of the few dreams I remember was influenced a bit by this amazing piece of art.

I must say, this piece is very haunting albeit beautiful. The dog-like creature is especially creepy to me, but for some reason it doesn't seem to fit in somehow. It's not the design of it, but the shading looks like it doesn't belong in the piece completely, somehow brighter than it should be. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me though.

On first glance things looks magnificent and hope with the golden field, but then all the animals have elements of decay or evil. I particularly like the lions tail.
