Description
The Barrel is a MS developped by Panther Heavy Industries in early UC 0093. It was designed to be both cheap and and over all improvement on the B Gundam Ballusine MPT. The Mobile Suit earns it's namesake from it's barrel shaped body. Despite the fact that it was developped using data from the B Gundam Ballusine MPT, it relies more on old Zeon MS knowhow. (Hence it's appearance) The overall height is almost exactly the same as the MS-06 Zaku II. The Barrel is also the first MS to incorperate the square panoramic cockpit. A simplified panoramic cockpit with flat monitors instead of the round shape commonly used in MS cockpits of the time. The Barrel's simplistic bodily design allows for a decent durability despite the standard Titanium alloy construction. It also has a good sensor system and decently powerful thrusters, which is surprising considering how cheaply the unit was designed. It's capabilities are pretty average but are comperable to an RGM-89 Jegan. The second Neo Zeon led by Mafune Char purchased a good number of these from PHI to supplement their Geara Dogas. The unit is highly generic but also very adaptable, being able to funtion on land, space, and even under water with no trouble. It can be equipped with a variety of equipment and weaponry and is considered in some ways to be a successor to the Hizack. Like the Hizack, the unit at times will carry the classic 120mm zaku machine gun. But only as a reserve weapon if a beam rifle is not availible. The chest also has a launcher built into the right side, that is capable of firing clay rounds, flash grenades or decoys depending on what's loaded into it. Many pilots were also known to retrofit parts and weaponry from older model MS out of prefrence or because they simply didn't have anything better. This is possible thanks to a universal handplug system and adaptable device driver software. In some instances units carried the large beam rifle of the Gaza C Mobile Suit left over from the first Neo Zeon War. At other times a pair of beam cannons would be fitted to the backpack. Because of this the Barrel later became a standard unit amongst multiple factions, and continued to be produced for over two decades.
