Description For the Matoran designs, I have combined their 2003 designs with their Toa Inika forms (mainly their masks), and have also given them the weapons of the Toa Metru.  In this series, they will not only be my story's version of Hobbits, but they will be more capable of combat too.  And like the Toa and Turaga, since they are of the same build, they will have limited recycling, though Hahli will have a different base body because she is female.

Matoro will be voiced by Martin Freeman.

—————

The Matoran are the native people of Okoto Nui.  Long ago, they received masks from Matanui so they could govern properly.  However, when Makuta tried to enslave them with his Master Mask, the Matoran aided Matanui in defeating him.  Over the next 3,000 years, they lived peaceful lives, guided by the Turaga.  But at times, they had to contend with the threat of Makuta's return, at least until the Toa came.

The Ko-Matoran are associated with ice, and so they are great thinkers.  Of the three virtues, they favor Destiny, from which they derive the principle of Peace and the skill of Willpower.  The most well known of the Ko-Matoran is MATORO, a linguist.  Matoro had served as Turaga Nuju's translator and trusted aide, and he could understand Nuju's strange bird calls.  When translating for Nuju, he would strike a narrator's pose, with his legs apart, head back and use a deep and booming voice to relay Nuju's wisdom.  Unlike most other Ko-Matoran, Matoro was not antisocial, but instead was very friendly towards others.  Constantly burdened with the amount of secrets he was intended to keep, Matoro struggled with being unable to tell his friends, though he ultimately knew that revealing anything would endanger them, something he was not willing to do.  His secrecy led some of the other Matoran, such as Hahli and Jaller, to think that Matoro refused to share secrets with them on purpose, even though they were friends.  He was one of six brave Matoran to volunteer to take the Mask of Absolute Power to destroy it in the Black Mountain to aid the Toa in defeating Makuta once and for all.  Matoro wears the Kanohi Iden, the Noble Mask of Spirit, which allows him to project his astral form from his body for a short time.
