Description Mutiara: Legend of the Seas (Non-Canon)

Episode 2

----------

Eric is brought deeper into the cove by Jessiana and the mermen.  Once inside, he sees many more mermaids like the ones he encountered.  Gathered around a tall rock is an elderly mermaid; she has desaturated hair that was blonde, and a gray-blue tail also losing its colors.  She has bright yellow eyes and white clams covering her breasts.  The faded scars are a clear indication that this mermaid has lived a very long life.  She weakly gets up from her sleep to see Jessiana swimming towards her.

Merman: Mutiara, we found your granddaughter with this human.
Mutiara: Thank you.  Jessiana, what is the matter at hand?
Jessiana: I found him at the edge of our cove.  He brought a necklace that looks like it belonged to out clan or another one.
Mutiara: May I see?

Jessiana gives Mutiara the necklace.  She examines it closely, then her eyes widen in surprise, as if she recognizes it.  The others notice her reaction.

Mutiara: Could that be…?
Eric: An old man, Edward O’Connell, said he found it in an expedition under the sea.  Do you know anything about it?
Mutiara: I do.  This was my necklace when I was Jessiana’s age.  I lost it while I was escaping.
Jessiana: Escaping?  From what?
Mutiara: From Sotong.
Eric: Who’s Sotong?

Mutiara sighs.  Earlier, she had gathered the mermaids to tell a story before her time was up.  She had planned it for some time, but now the others will finally hear the story of how she traveled the Seven Seas.

Mutiara: My friends, my family.  It is time I told you my story.  I have lived a long life, bared many children and descendants.  It pains me to also bring bad news, but age is catching up with me.  I do not think I will be with you for many days more.  Before I die, I will finally reveal my secrets, my adventures across the Seven Seas.  It began a long time ago, when I was a mere merchild…

----------

Flashback, 1911 AD.  We Mutiara when she was very, very young.  Her hair and tail are much more vibrant in her youth.  She peaks from behind a rock to gaze upon a sunken ship, encrusted with barnacles.  Mutiara did this in her free time, exploring sunken ships near the archipelago, collecting human artifacts.

Voice: Mutiara, wait for me!
Mutiara: Squally, hurry up, will you?

She is accompanied by a young Squalodon, a species of dolphin-like whale.  This is Squally, Mutiara’s best friend, and he often joins the little mermaid in her adventures, albeit reluctantly.

Squally: You know I can’t swim that fast as my parents.
Mutiara: There’s the ship I was telling you about.  Isn’t it amazing?
Squally: Yeah, it’s great.  Let’s get out of here.

Squally prepares to swim away, but Mutiara grabs him by the tail, sighing.

Mutiara: You’re not getting cold fins now, are you?
Squally: What?  No way.
Mutiara: Come on.

They swim up to the ship and find a way in through a window.  Inside, Mutiara starts collecting various artifacts, while Squally keeps watch for potential predators.  The wreckage and sunken human bones put the young whale on edge.  Mutiara puts the items in her bag and sees him shaking.

Mutiara: What’s the matter, Squally?  Worried about the big bad sharks?
Squally: Huh?  No, I’m not!
Mutiara: Oh, don’t be such a guppy.
Squally: I’m not a guppy…

As he keeps watch for sharks, Squally notices something far more dangerous outside the ship: a Dunkleosteus, an armored predatory fish.  It notices the two potential meals inside.

Squally: Uh, Mutiara…
Mutiara: Squally, will you relax?  Nothing is going to happen.

Suddenly, the Dunkleosteus bursts into the ship, snapping at the mermaid and young whale violently.  It pursues them all across the ship, cutting off any means of escape.  By chance, they make it out of a porthole, and it’s strong enough to trap the armored fish, at least for the time being.

Squally: You big bully!

Squally teases the predator, until one final snap from its jaws sends him swimming away screaming.  The two real the surface to catch some air, and to find a friend.  On an outcropping near the shore, a gigantic pelican-like bird swallows its latest catch.  This is Keekar, a Pelagornis and another one of Mutiara’s friends.  Keekar sees the duo come to shore, and he swoops down to greet them.

Mutiara: Hey Keekar!
Keekar: Whoa, what a swim.  You must have found a lot of goodies.
Squally: It was really creepy too!
Keekar: Let’s see what you got today.

Mutiara unloads her bag, and Keekar starts looking through her catches, to see what he can identify, having an extensive knowledge on humans.

Keekar: So many treasures, so many stories to tell, so little time.
Mutiara: Can you tell me what this strange object is?

She holds up a spoon she collected, and Keekar takes a closer look at it.  He looks intrigued.

Keekar: This, my dear, is a spoon.  Humans use it to feed themselves.
Mutiara: They eat with their tools and not their hands?
Keekar: Yes.  The people and creatures on land are interesting ones indeed.
Squally: What about this weird tube thingy?

Squally nudges a smoking pipe.  Keekar takes a close look at the pipe, as this was a special catch.

Keekar: Hmm, this appears to be a smoking pipe.  I don’t know how it works exactly, but the humans use it to export smoke out of their bodies, similar to dragons or Fire-type dinosaurs.
Mutiara: Humans can breath fire?
Keekar: I wouldn’t say that.  But it’s not far-fetched; legend has it there was a land where men could command the elements, but they were wiped out in a terrible war.  It’s known as the Land of Legends.
Mutiara & Squally: Whoa.
Keekar: But that place is a myth.  No one has ever proven its existence.  Those who tried either failed or died.

They hear a snorting sound nearby, and all turn to see Loth feeding on seaweed.  He is a Behemoths, a strange hippo-like mammal suited for marine life.  he eats some seaweed and burps loudly.

Loth: Oh I’m sure a place like that exists.
Mutiara: Loth.
Keekar: It doesn’t exist, you loathsome keep sucker!
Loth: Oh please.  Only if you choose not to believe it.
Squally: What’s this guy’s problem?
Keekar: Loth here is a lunatic.  Go eat some seaweed underwater, blubber butt.
Loth: Don’t believe everything you hear, mermaid.

He laughs until he burps again, before he departs into the ocean.  Just as he disappears, another whale surfaces.  This is Mooki, a female Basilosaurus covered in healed battle scars.

Mooki: Afternoon, mates.  Lovely day, isn’t it?
Squally: Hi Mooki.
Mooki: Mutiara, your parents are looking for you.  It’s pretty urgent.
Mutiara: Huh?  Oh, the ceremony!  I forgot!
Squally: The ceremony was today?!
Mutiara: I’m sorry, I have to go.  Thank you, Keekar!
Keekar: Anytime, sweetie!

Mutiara and Squally dive with Mooki to return to her clan.  Loth surfaces as he sees them leave, eating more seaweed.  A sea gull lands on his back, and he sees it.

Loth: Oh hi.

----------

Mutiara, Squally, and Mooki swim with haste to attend the ceremony before it is over.  Halfway there, Mutiara accidentally drops her bag of human artifacts, and is inks rapidly.

Mutiara: Oh no, my collection!
Squally: I got it!

Squally dives down to try to catch it.  He nearly reaches it, but suddenly, it is snatched by a new creature.  It’s a Dakosaurus, a marine crocodile, Buaya.  He laughs with joy as he holds the bag in his mouth.

Squally: Hey!
Buaya: Nice try, shrimpy.  You snooze, you lose!
Mutiara: Give it back, Buaya!  That’s mine.
Mooki: You heard her.  Give it back, before I bite you in half.
Buaya: If you say so, Mooki.

He drops the bag, but Mutiara catches it.  However, Buaya did this to get a better look at Mutiara’s territory.  He then looks up and grins at them, right as a blood-curdling shriek sounds through the water.

Mooki: Your master calls.  You best go quickly.  She sounds in ill-temper tonight.
Buaya: That she does, that she does… and with good reason…

Buaya suddenly darts away with great haste, shouting and laughing excitedly.

Buaya: I found their turf!  I found their turf!
Mooki: I will handle it from here.  Now go!

Squally and Mutiara swim back to the clan while Mooki chases Buaya.  In the underwater cave, several Dinosaurian mermaids have gathered for a special ceremony.  It is hosted by Mutiara’s parents, Vahiin & Nishana.  Every year, the Sea Lord, a Thalassomedon, selects merchildren who have reached age 13 to wear special teeth made from mosasaur guardians who have lost their teeth.  Mutiara makes it in time to be in line with the others before they are called out.

Merboy: Took you long enough, Mutiara.
Mutiara: I’m sorry, I just forgot.
Mergirl: You’re lucky we haven’t started yet.
Sea Lord: Will the participants swim forward into the ring?

The horns sound.  Mutiara and six other merchildren her age enter the ring, ready to achieve their gifts.  Vahiin and Nishana reveal the necklaces.

Vahiin: These teeth were gifts from our guardian, who has passed into the next life.
Nishana: He offers his shed teeth so that his spirit can protect you.

One by one, each merchild receives his or her mosasaur tooth necklace.  But just before Mutiara can receive hers, the cave wall crumbles.  Buaya and several cecaelia break through and swarm the area.  These are not like octopuses like Cephalor those; these are squid-type cecaelia: they are red instead of black, have longer tentacles, and a pair of grabber tentacles.  Leading them is a vicious female, Sotong.

Sotong: A party!  I didn’t miss the cake and ice cream, did I?
Vahiin: Sotong!  Get out!
Sotong: I don’t think so.  This place seems so nice.  It’s spacious, warm, bountiful, everything my clan’s current home is not!
Nishana: That is not your concern, Sotong.
Sotong: We deserve to live here as much as you do.  It’s our right.
Nishana: Your right according to whose law?!  You squid monsters hunt for pleasure and kill for power!  You know nothing of law!

Mutiara hides behind her parents, who point their spears at Sotong and her clan.

Vahiin: We were here first.  You know who rules where.  Best you leave now.
Sotong: Careful, Vahiin.  You do not want to challenge me.

Buaya cackles, but then Mooki arrives, accompanied by Saturn, a black, white, and yellow Kronosaurus.  He roars out at the intruders fiercely.

Saturn: I am the clan’s new guardian, and as so, I demand that you leave immediately!  Should you take on one of us, you take on all of us.  As long as I am the protector and as long as Vahiin and Nishana lead this clan, this part of the sea is closed to you.
Sotong: It can’t be like this forever.  The day we lose our turf, we will come back here, and it will be clouded by your blood!

Saturn and Mooki drive Sotong, her clan, and Buaya away violently.  The fight has been won before it could even begin, and there are no casualties or injuries on either side.

Nishana: Thank you, Saturn.
Saturn: The last protector tasked me to protect this clan in his stead.  As long as I am alive, nothing will happen here.  You have my word, Nishana.

The mermaids cheer, and Vahiin and Nishana give the final necklace to their daughter.  Her friends cheer her on, as Mutiara kisses Squally on the side of his head.  Little did she know that her adventure was only just beginning…

It's nicknamed Godzilla because of the shape of its snout.
