just take out the sliver ring coverings and it would look like an exact replica of Obi-Wan's. apparently all of the EU Jedi modeled their lightsabers after Luke so they look like Ben's and Luke's.

I'm sure, but they are very similar. I guess Luke must have read the same 'Building Lightsabers for Dummies' book Obi-Wan did.

Hey man I just wanted to give you props for an awesome digital render of luke's lightsaber. I loved it so much I did a render of your image for my art class using prismacolor markers. I hope you get a chance to check it out on my page.

It's mostly v1 I think, though I used pictures of both as a reference. I went with whatever had the clearer pictures for each section I modelled.

What's cools is that I have the FX Lightsaber version of that. [link] It's not an exact replica because the copper colored part of the tube and the part below that had to be made fatter in order to secure the Ploy-carbonate blade to the hilt. I really like the grip on it though. Luke sure knew what he was doing when he build that saber.
