I've been looking up information on the MPE-65mm; not that I can do much with it on a D90 but it looks like a very rewarding lens. Albeit a complex and difficult one; your shots with it are a great testament to your skill as a photographer. I think I will start with a reversal ring and match my two adjustable lenses together to get started. Until I can afford a macro piece of glass that is. And I don't know what to do about flash lighting on my present budget, but I have my sights set on the R1 wireless set up.

Just about any lens in the 100mm range is a good starter lens for someone getting into macro. Later on you can add a full set of Kenko extension tubes and go up to 2x. Most of my popular photos are in the 1.5x to 4x range though, and you're going to find it difficult to go above 3x unless you get into reversing one lens onto another. I like the MPE-65mm because it's sharp, has excellent contrast, and it's the easiest way to go from 1x to 5x (7x with a 1.4x teleconverter).
