Description Sometimes I manage to get close to a critter that seems to be half asleep and when it wakes up it doesn't know that I'm close. So it goes about it's normal routine, like brushing it's tongue (or in this case a proboscis).

Tech specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@ 3x) + an MT-24EX macro twin flash (-1 1/3 FEC).

First of all, if there were to be 6th star in the technique and vision categories I would totally give it to you! This is an amazing photo that is extremely hard to achieve!! I haven't seen a photo like this with such clarity for a long time!!!! I've read the comments and I realize that this photo really needs to break the barrier of DeviantART and break into the internet for the world to see, enjoy and study! Getting to origianality I've seen things like this before but photos usually consisted of a busy background or lacking clarity of the subject. Now this photo has everything it needs and five star rating has been awarded to you! Once again great job and keep up the great work!!!!! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

You have to go out early in the morning while they are still trying to warm up

Thanks

One of the reason's why I shoot at the angles that I do is to bring out that personality -they don't come across as insects...

In the larger version, and the original, you can tell that it's hollow

Thanks

Yes, many insects have hair growing out of their eyes.

John, I think you ought to update the Bee-Wikipedia with your knowledge of bees and magnified pictures, so the whole world can benefit from your dedication to bees.
