Digitally Painted with a mouse (not a tablet) some copy & Paste to create mutiple plantlife. I waas trying to appeal to our sense of the ancient by giving my alien a slightly Mayan face, and having him planting what in structure appears corn-like. Planting under a full moon as opposed to daytime also helps to create a more spiritual, almost ancient-superstitious feel to the scene. Giving my aliens a sense of culture in my paintings by borrowing from cultures of our own species helps us to relate to the alien while still maintaining a foreign/alien appeal. For example, you can tell, by the subtleties in this image, that this is a wize, almost shamanlike creature because a) he is levitating, b) he is planting by the moon, suggesting ancient wisdom c) he looks slightly like a native american with very long hair which white americans tend to subconsciously stereotype as spiritual, shamanistic people (using commonly known stereotyping in very subtle ways is an effective technique to create a "story" around a character d) he has glowing green eyes suggesting an inner power e) he can create life because energy emanating from his fingers is penetrating the ground, immediately around which smaller version of the larger corn-like plants are sprouting f) he is somewhat aged and his long mane which, though not really hair, appears to have taken a long time to grow suggesting age. Using these subtleties tells a story, and makes the alien seem much more familiar.
