Description This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.

In this case, Crystar Crystal Warrior #3.  This series had some amazing Golden covers, but the comic itself was so cheesy!

The original cover was created by Michael Golden, copyright Marvel Comics.

Here is the original cover:

Thanks, Gary!  I was using the an actual copy of the comic as reference, but didn't see all the extra hatching detail in the original art because of the coloring... then I saw this:

Yeah, he always puts in more detail than a normal human would!

As much as I disliked this comic, I adored the covers! One of Golden's best IMHO! Recreated to perfection here sir!

Thanks, Rob!  I always wondered why such pedestrian comics sometimes got consistently good cover art - but that's how I probably picked them up.

I think that was the ploy Chris! To try and trick us in to thinking Golden did the whole thing! Lol!!

Every so often, he would!  Like a  Doc Strange or something.   never Crystar, though.  And Bill Sienkiewicz never drew a Dazzler story.

Amazing details Chris. I love those energy crackles. You can never go wrong with a Golden cover.

Thanks, Bill!  He's probably one of the most difficult to render - at least, only while looking at one of his comic covers directly.

How long does it usually take for you to produce one of these marvelous pages?

Probably about 10-12 hours each.

Thanks!  I can only manage about one of these a week, there's no way I could make a living!

Thanks!  I found a black and white image of Golden's original art when I was about halfway through - without the color, there are so many more crosshatch details I missed in the middle section!
