Description

It is second day of Pentecost and Frisian become the center of the motor sport. 3500 motorbike did today take part in the Elfstedentoch (elevencitytour) for motor bike. Motorbike from all over Europe (yes I saw several not Dutch license plates) came to Frisian to take part in a 220 kilometer long tour through the Frisian country side to visit the eleven city’s of Frisian where they collect the stamps. They start in Leeuwarden and head then to Sneek, Sloten, Stavoren, Hinderlopen, Workum, Bolsward, Franeker, Harlingen Dokkum and head then back to Leeuwarden.

Every Elfstedentoch is celebrated in Frisian with people standing next to the road cheering and waving to those that pass by. Although that I did not take part of the motorbike tour (I was riding a bicycle) people cheered me on and had a couple more miles to go to reach the end. It’s just one big party along the rout. Beside motorbike did also several oldtimers, sport cars and the Ghostbusters take part in the tour. A truck from a supermarket ended also up between the bikes after it delivered its cargo to a store and happily flashed its lights and honked its horns to everyone along the route as it headed back to the distribution point.

Beside the motorbike Elfstedentoch was there also a bicycle elfstedentoch at the same time. I did not really take picture of them, only when I visited a small mile. Its less fun then the motorbike elfstedentocht.
