I'm in the process of using a tutorial based on your hobbit feet in order to make my own, only I'm having trouble with figuring out what paints to use. Do you have any ideas/suggestions? What did you end up using, if you don't mind my asking?

I used those cheap acrylic craft paints you can get for like a dollar. You've gotta mix your own skin color, though. Their skin colors are far too pink and bright. I mix red, a touch of yellow, and blue together with white until I get the right tone. Also, looked at my feet a lot while painting. I made the pads and toes pinker and the veins slightly blue. I used a satin finish clear gloss for the nails to give them a natural smooth look.

I used superglue and fabri-tac to hold the front onto the shoes. They do fine walking all day. The paint rubs off the underside of the toes, but it's not like anyone sees that.

Wow, did a great job on these! And such a clever idea using the slipper-feet over a pair of shoes. Did you have to fill in the toes with anything to help them keep their shape? And may I ask what size feet you normally have? I'm trying to create a hobbit costume but am wondering if the feet will be too big.

Nope, the toes stayed just fine without filling. I figured filling them might throw my weight off or cause the toes to separate from the shoe, but that's all just theory since I never tried it. I wear a size 7, but they're described as having large feet anyway, so I would not worry too much about it. Painting them and adding the hair is so fun.

Ah cool. That sounds good, I'm actually a 7.5 in shoe size so not far off you. And your method does solve another issue for me - having to wear shoes at the convention venue (health and safety rules). Bare feet effect without bare feet!
Can't wait to see your finished costume. Be sure to post it up.

Well, I am being a different hobbit, but now that you mention it I did have quite a Martin Freeman themed costume list last year, didn't I?

Yah. Looking forward to what you have going on this year. We'll have to do forced perspective shots of you again.
