Description The second of three group shot designs for the Steampunk RPG project by ~destriarch. I really like this one for reasons I can't really explain.

Again, it's Pen, Brush and Ink on board.

great shading, it really DOES remind one of the work of Jae Lee...

Thanks. I'm trying to go for a sort of hybrid style of Maleev and Jae Lee(realism with really sharp contrasts), with hopefully a little bit of me thrown in there too. It's in the faces where you can really get where my own style is, I think....hopefully.

"realism with really sharp contrasts" reminds me of Sean Phillips...Maleev is great with expressions and stuff, he's like a more styllistic Mazzuchelli...
anyways, keep up the great work!

Thanks, the second person who's mentioned Jae....maybe that's not such a good thing?

Depends...is he a big influence on you? It's not a good thing if you traced over Jae's stuff, which i'm sure you didn't. And altho' i said it reminded me of Lee's work i was also glad to find something like this on DA...a welcome diversion from all the awesome crappy manga and poorly drawn spider mans.
Gonna check out your gallery

He is an influence, yes...I'm still sort of finding my way with this style, trying to blend a Lee, Maleev, and hopefully a little bit of me as well(which I hope can show through in the faces and arrangement of people). It's still pushing it out a bit farther, trying to spin it out into a different style that's similar but more my own. Then again, style, someone once said "is everything you do wrong". Heh, I don't mind manga to be honest, it has it's place. I just don't apply it myself and find that it really only works for certain moods.

I like manga if it's good which is something you don't find around DA very often.
About your style, it's something that takes a while...i myself am a mix of so many influences that it actually looks like a style of my own I just absorb things from every talented artist i can, i guess. Right now i think i can look at something i made and see my own input more than i ever could. I've been told my stuff looks like Quitely, Cassaday, Bolland and so many others i lost count. I just find it flattering nowadays. Charest started out as a Jim Lee clone
