Description
Not only on my face, but all over my heart, inside of it, deep within the pain of my torn soul... I can barely stand it... Memories, will the darkness finally hide them from my eyes?Aaaaand here I am again. I know, I know, I may move on on something different, but how can I? The Star Wars galaxy is so inspiring and I started living a second -seems neverending- childhood after episode VII. I knew the saga pretty well, 'cause my brother was already a big fan, but didn't realized how much I loved it since The Force Awakens. Maybe the Force woke up in me too, ah? It was like I was sleeping, and then I finally opened my eyes.
This was a concept I worked on immediately after my first ep.VII cinema experience: it was a big piece, with lot of things on it, but I managed to do only the rough sketch and then left it behind. 'Till some days ago. I didn't rework on the old piece, but instead started a new one, on an A4 piece of paper. The new trailer and pictures of Kylo with the scar inspired me the compisition (in the old one memories where represented on his cape) and here it is. Sadness, regret, pain, rage...mmm, maybe too much to handle alone, right?

thank you very much and yes, definitely sad. I always have this feeling watching Kylo struggling to get free from his past, but actually falling into it again. (TLJ SPOILER) After watching TLJ I'm really curious about his fate, and even though I don't want our Resistance heroes to die, I may support his "kill the past" solution: after all, his past tried to kill him, right? Is not totally wrong, considering what he has been trough. We will see ^^

But in Episode VIII, they really made something out of him. The conflict grew more real, the character became more human and more reletable. And even the obvious Rey and Kylo ship was sweet. Kylo grew from being a Vader clone to trying to be his own person. And I think the most striking thing about him in this episode is Driver's acting, and his face. Vader was always behind a mask, and you never knew what he felt or though, more machine then man. Kylo is a human with obvious emotions and human conflicts, and the fact that you can read every single thing on his face speaks volumes.
As for the "kill the past" solution, I don't think that's a wrong way of thinking, but Kylo went the wrong way in doing it - he should have offered Rey the chance to get away from all of it. Killing just the Resistance is one - sided, as the First Order is still his past. They could've left for the Outer Regions, or some remote planet. Kylo's face isn't known among the general populace, so they could've just left them to fight their own battle and lived out their lives. Or destroy the First Order from within and then leave. Either way, killing off only the Resistance and leaving the First Order is one - sided and still selfish.

I liked TFA too, actually, but Kylo was not like in this one, mainly because for half of the movie he was behind a mask. I think it was their purpose to keep it like that till the point it took the mask off, just to show he is not the nightmare you think but a young man with, let's say, lots of problems XD Everyone was complaining about his face at first, but I don't see whats the problem not have chosen a Brad Pitt for the role but a person that feel so much true. I love his way of acting and it definitely bring the character on stage in TLJ.
The problem of the choice he made in the end is basically because, even though he said to kill it, he IS still linked to his past. I don't think he forgot his purpose of being the new Vader and destroy the Jedi. And like Vader did with Luke when he suggested him they could have ruled the galaxy together, he chose Rey to be at his side, because he still is struggling with the dark side, too strong in him right now. I wonder what will happen when he finds out his mother is still alive ('cause I am not sure he knows that): that may be the real spark that makes him think in a different way. Which doesn't mean he has to chose the light side, but the Balance of the Force.
Sorry if I explained badly or something, I can go really messy when trying to explain things, and this doubles when I do it in a foreign language ^^

You're definately right about the mask, else they wouldn't wait for him so long to take it off. I think it's a deffense mechanism for him too, because his face is so expressive, it easier to hide it behind a mask. So it's not just trying to copy Vader but also a way to establish himself among other.
Oh yes, the problem with Driver for me was at the beginning because he wasn't some pretty boy. Well, not really a problem, I just couldn't decide if I liked him or not
Yes, he's deffinately strugling
And I don't think he knew about his mum being alive, else I don't think he would've ordered the attack on the Rebel base and not to take anyone alive.

ahah. it seems like we were so few to like driver at first sight. I wanted so bad that everything was a surprise when I went to watch TFA the first time, that I almost hadn't seen any pictures of the cast so I didn't know that that it would be his face ^^
I'm so curious about the third chapter now, and so bad we have to wait.

Yeah, I didn't know anything about the cast either, except for Ford, of course.
