Ball pen on paper (A4 max)This was a huge piece for me, considering the time and space I'm into during my working season. It took about 8/10 hours. There are a lot of tiny details, so please zoom and appriciate all of them or I'll go crazy!
The concept was totally different at the beginning. I was thinking about doing another chinese dragon or something like that, then I added the feather, then the little Hummingbird and then, then, then...the Maya look came out with the feathers crown on the head of the dragon so I added the background. Since I'm not so into those kind of thing, I'm happy with the result.
Things I'm happy with this piece: the Maya Wheel, the feet of the dragon and his scales.
Thing's I'm not happy with (but it's too late, when the ink is on the paper, you can just eat your fingers and cry.LOL): the stairs of the pyramid 'cause they do not match the perspective, some spot and ink smears here and there.

If I might offer a small correction to your title. The meso-american imagery featured in the background of your work is the Aztec Sun Stone (more commonly known as the Aztec Calendar Stone) found in modern day Mexico City (known to the Atzec people as their capitol Tenochtitlan.)
The Maya Wheel that you refer to in your description is actually a calendar system of 3 interlocking wheel "gears" (one wheel inside another that ride around the outside of a larger third wheel, like gears in a clock.)
The pyramid in your work looks like "El Castillo" (also known as the Pyramid of Kukulcan) found in the ancient Maya city of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula.
There is a fair bit of common confusion between Aztec and Maya imagery, but the two cultures are quite distinct with unique styles of art, architecture, language and politics.

Oh, wowowow beautiful, beautiful detail! Is this Quetzacoatl?? I saw a picture of the Quezacoatlus the other day, scary! I love the mix of mayan background, yet stylized western (kinda) dragon! Getting a touch of griffon from the feathers! Stunninggg.
