Description I am currently working another of my alternate era Mystery Inc pieces when I remembered that I had drawn this one of everyone's favourite solvers of groovy mysteries a few weeks ago in some updated versions of their iconic outfits that I designed.Β

Scooby-Doo (c) HANNA-BARBERA/WARNER BROS.

Very nice art. If they do a new reboot (or an alternate interpretation that'll target more the young adults) with a more competent creative team, that'totaly the style that I'd go for.

Seems a bit more lid mid-2000s than 2016. 2016 would have them looking like hipstersΒ

Thanks very much. The most difficult to design was Daphne. I couldn't find a look that I felt was modern but still true to the character. It was only because I saw a woman wearing the same outfit (except the dress was black and the shirt underneath green) that I thought I had finally found the design I was looking for!

While your designs are good. I don't think it's decent enough for what I'm trying to do.

I want Scooby and the gang look like they came from the time period. Most people want to keep that 60s/70s style from the original which I'm seeing in your design.
It's cool, but I want to see Scooby and the gang wear different fashions that are modern but still resembles the gang.

A good example of a Scooby Doo incarnation (in my opinion) that was very modern, but knew what to take out was A Pup Named Scooby Doo. It completely took itself in the 80s/90s style and knew just what to update and what to leave alone.

Here's someone that did them cool an artist called who worked on updating them with a really good style.

they should hire you to do all the future series and fire who ever came up with the "Be Cool Scooby Doo!" designs and show premiseΒ

Be Cool is my favorite incarnation out of the WB era. While I get that many people hate the art design as they say it looks Seth MacFarlene. The style is more reminisant to modern cartoons like Gravity Falls and Adventure Time.

Not only the art style, but Β they claimed it to be a recall to the original 1970's Scooby Doo, but they turned Daphne into a literal dumb blonde and
Velma seems more snobby than intellectual in her dialogue. Β On top of that, I don't like the art style because it looks dumbed down and the overall
chemistry of the gang and the stories are pretty weak. If you like it that is fine, but I am just stating my opinion.

fastsonicous In reply to DragoKnight88 [2016-11-30 10:08:49 +0000 UTC]

I didn't want to reach this, but at least the writing was better than Mystery Incorporated which I assume you like.

And while I can see why many people like it. It's got that darker, edgy dramatic feel that most of you guys love to see. They really made the characters unlikable and made everything into a dumb joke or an excuse to pull the plot forward.

While I agree the animation and designs for the monsters were good as well as the ideas they did have. The show tried way too hard to sound all this big and epic, that in the long run just seemed too ugly.

But if you prefer that one that's fine. Just remember that it really didn't save the Scooby Doo franchise.

DragoKnight88 In reply to fastsonicous [2016-11-30 14:04:07 +0000 UTC]

While I did enjoy Mystery Incorporated, when I hear mention of going back to it's routes,
I expected slightly modified version at best, maybe not as dark path the previous incarnation
took, but with the actual feel from the original series of the 1970's. I feel the new incarnation
has been dumbed down to an unwatchable level and that the character changes, however slight,
for Velma and Daphne (mainly Daphne) were poor choices and they could have made a better attempt.

As for the art work, there is much left to be desired and that could be improved as soon as this incarnation
passes and we move on to the next series which I hope will be a bit more balanced. Mystery Incorporated may
not have been the salvation of the series, but it showed a promising direction that the future of the series could
take, again as I stated a bit more balance to the comedy/mystery of "Scooby-Doo! Where Are You?" added in with
some elements from "What's New Scooby-Doo" which in my opinion was going along the same lines as it's predecessor.

But as you said if you prefer "Be Cool Scooby-Doo!" that is fine as well. However, I will submit to one thing, darkness/edginess
does not equal quality, but restricting Scooby-Doo's lines and making Daphne a literal ditzy red head is lazy writing and comedy
from my perspective as a fan of the franchise and did not contribute much to save the Scooby-Doo franchise either.

The reason people like you think that Mystery Incorporated is good. Is because you think that because it's "adult" makes it better.

Mystery Incorporated may look good, but if you take all that stupid allegories of friendship and every single referenceΒ that is trying to be said. The storyΒ doesn't make any sense. It tries so hard to speak with symbolism and trying to make it meaningful that it doesn't make sense in the long run.

If Scooby Doo wants to get people in the seas, it needs to appeal to both kids and adults. Which I'm not saying that's easy.

Be Cool may not be the most spectacular, so while it didn't save the franchise, it's going the right direction. This is why Mystery Incorporated as much as you praise it didn't work out because many of you are going "Why can't we have our Scooby Doo cartoon like this?" You're just asking for disappointment that way.
