Thanks so much for your demo! I just got a tablet and I've been nervous to try my hand at creating any portrait-style work. I had always assumed it involved multiple layers but I guess I was totally off!
Thanks again

This is really nice. I love the vid. Really helpful. That's a lot better than I could do on a computer, but then I guess it would be quite tricky for anyone with a mouse. I take it you use a Tablet? Which one?
I was quite pleased to find that digital art still uses traditional rules (in some respects), like the initial wash, then the building up of 3D form using subtle opacity changes, similar to trad painting, starting from a light wash, and then gradually using less water to create the 3D effect. Then reds and pinks and flesh tints, yellows and browns etc. I notice you didn't use much blue in the shadow areas, more grey and green. I guess that's just your style. I love it when you add the green, it gives it a real punch, a zesty zing. Isn't it called radiosity when you see a saturated color reflected onto another surface. U seen it in films when a character at night might be half in shadow but then the other half of his/her face is bright blue.
U make some really broad gestural marks and some really good decisions with your mark making too.
Ramble over.

I had no idea this was digital art. It always impresses me to see this kind of work. Have you tried traditional mediums? I haven't seen your gallery yet but I'm definately inclined to check it out. How long did this take you?
