Fools! What hope could mere scholars have of defeating the greatest of all Dark Lords?!?

Scholars? The Guardians are GODS! Yeah, Sauron's going down.

And I thought Morgoth was the greatest of dark lords

I can't believe I did not notice this in your gallery this picture is, to put mildly AWSOME. Especially given the (in my opinion) simular increadibly powerful nature of these characters.

Oh quite, that is one of the reasons that I drew this, because of the extreme power but opposing forces each character represents; science and cold logic vs. magic and malicious tendencies

I realize this may be a silly question but who do you think will win. I realize that the Guardians have numbers on thier side but this is Sauron we are talking about.

I believe one Guardian could defeat Sauron.

On Saurons side, yes, he is divine, in a sense, as in he is angelic. Yes, he can rally loathesome creatures to his cause. Yes, he can take on armies by himself and call down meteor showers, sure, no one's denying that. Yes, his ring can corrupt most living beings.

For the Guardians however, they have no emotions nor desires, and are some of the most strong willed beings in the history of creation. The Guardians are immortal. They have enough power to destroy worlds with a mere thought. They can summon the strongest willed beings in the universe and bestow upon them the most powerful weapons ever developed.

Everyone always underestimates the Guardians

Out of curiosity how do you think Melkor aka Morgoth would fare. Considering that he is a Valar and Sauron was naught but a Lieutenant to him.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-19 04:08:26 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure. Morgoth was practically a God, and I mean like an Abrahamic God, practically all powerful. The Guardians have defeated such entities, but only together. I think that if the entire Council went against him, they might be stronger

I drew a simular conclusion. But I threw in the earth Green Lanterns including Alan Scott in for good measure.

Oh my O.o

I had the notion that while the Guardians dealt with Morgoth, the Corps. would deal with his army of Balrogs

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-22 14:17:47 +0000 UTC]

True. I would consider a fight between the Earth Green Lanterns and Gothmog lord of Balrogs another epic fight.

Oh quite, that does sound rather a decent fight. I wonder who could fare against Nekron? The single most powerful evil force in the DCU

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-23 17:05:58 +0000 UTC]

That would probably take the most powerful of the Valar to have any real chance against something of Nekron's power.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-23 19:06:39 +0000 UTC]

Quite. The writers said that Nekron was the first evil that the Guardians imprisoned, but even the Spectre couldn't touch him.

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-24 01:09:30 +0000 UTC]

But one thing remains. I am not sure which Vala would consivably beat him other than Manwe Sulimo, Tulkas, and Aule, even then they would be working together.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-24 02:42:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh quite. Even then I'm not sure, as Nekron is a being that is subject to defeat only by exposure to particular weakness while int he living universe.

Who do you think would be a match for the wisest of the Maiar, and the most powerful of the istari. Known to a few as Olorin but better known as Gandalf.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-25 23:57:22 +0000 UTC]

That's a difficult one. With Gandalf it isn't a matter of power, as the Witch King could defeat him in battle, and the Witch King is a subordinate to Sauron, whom we have already decided a Guardian could defeat.
No, it's the designs he weaves, his gift for bringing about seemingly impossible victories, and seemingly knowing almost everything that goes on.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-27 20:17:28 +0000 UTC]

The Witch King is a fairly unique case due to the whole "No man can kill me." thing mabye that does not apply to Gandalf but in the books the two never actually fight.
What is more Gandalf does not really use destructive magic often. Other than when he fought the Balrog I cannot think of any instance that he used offencive magic other than when he blinded the Uruks in the battle of Helms deep. A possible reason may be that he did not want his allies to have a full perception of his power because of the possibility that they would become over confidant in his powers. As far as things go I think that Gandalf while not Sauron's equal is on the same level of power as the dark Lieutenant.

However I agree wholeheartedly on your second point about "it's the designs he weaves, his gift for bringing about seemingly impossible victories, and seemingly knowing almost everything that goes on." being his most dangerous quality to the forces of evil.

One last thing do you think that Gandalf could effectively utilize a Green Lantern Ring?

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-28 02:01:59 +0000 UTC]

Well what i meant by Gandalf and the Witch King was the part in the book and film where Gandalf seems unsure that he could defeat him. And the way that the Witch King seemed to think he could do so. That scene where the Witch King stands before the broken gate of Minas Tirith, and Gandalf facing him, gave me an impression that they were equals in a way, opposite but equal forces.
The "no man can kill me thing", I don't think, was a rule as such, but more of a prophecy. It was said when the combined forces of men and elves drove the Witch King from Angmar, and killed his lieutenants

An interesting question. I think so though, because he certainly has the ability to overcome great fear. The Balrog was a creature of power that could have perhaps eclipsed his own, yet he fought it anyway to give his fellows a chance to escape

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-31 01:17:34 +0000 UTC]

I am glad my question interested you. The reason it came to mind was because I think that Gandalf would have a great deal of respect for the Guardians and the bravery they have shown.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-01-31 03:52:52 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps, but I have to wonder if he'd have wanted to work for them. He always had that I-know-what's-coming-next thing about him, which I think would have barred himself from becoming a GL

Neo232 In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2011-01-31 16:35:54 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you are right about that he does posses that quality of knowing what will happen before anyone else.

But like in the movies and books he willingly took orderes from Aragorn (Granting that he knew Aragorn for a while) I think that if he felt that the Guardians were in the right he would follow their orders. At least for the duration of that current crisis.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Neo232 [2011-02-01 02:24:16 +0000 UTC]

He might help in that case. He might even become a deputy lantern or something of that sort, but Gandalf's always gone away again until he was needed

I agree that Gandalf would leave afterward to quote an old show. "I now will vanish mysteriously as is my way."

This is kickass! I'd also like to point out that the German sucked me right into this, as I have been on a German kick lately and my initial reaction was "I SORT OF UNDERSTAND WHAT THE TITLE MEANS!!!"

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to myoneandonly [2010-04-14 01:31:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm pitifully proud of how much German I can understand. It really isn't much, but I can figure out how to write that. Although DA wouldn't let me put the umlaut over the a in "Wachter", which means that it's pronounced incorrectly. It should I think be pronounced "v-ek-ter", with varying degrees of spit in the back of ones throat based on where in the German speaking world you are.

And yes, I am rather proud of this piece. Hopefully no one is going to point out to me that Sauron and the eye are the same entity so it's redundant to draw Barad-dur there too. The background is more symbolic than factual, as Barad-dur is not located on Oa, and the Central Power Battery isn't found on the plains of Gorgoroth

When I saw this pic and it's title, I thought "great, another German comicbook-fan", because there aren't very much in Germany. But to see that you aren't German makes me astonish: Sehr gut, ich dachte wirklich, du seist deutsch. Why did you decide to give title and description in German? Weren't you afraid that nobody would look at it because nobody would understand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Poison-Harley [2010-04-14 10:28:31 +0000 UTC]

Well I like Germany, sorry to disappoint you that I'm in fact not German, however. The reasons I put it in German was really just for the same reason; I like Germany, the language, the country, &c. The reason I put the description in German was to make the whole thing match, and because no one ever reads the description anyway. If someone did ask, then I would simply explain it to them with the greatest good will

You might say I did it on a whim, sorry about that.

You really don't have to apologize so often. I'm a bit relieved that Germany doesn't seem to be Naziland in foreign eyes any longer...^^

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Poison-Harley [2010-04-14 21:56:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh, well that's delightful ^^

I consider the Nazi thing an unfortunate circumstance that happened, no denying it, but has been repayed and forgiven. Besides, that generation is pretty much gone, it's like black people in the US expecting sympathy, as though they themselves had been slaves.
It's really not applicable in modern times
