Description

Ever since she came to this town the Dazzler had to run the gauntlet.

It started with those bogus cops in the police car. They thought Alison Blaire would be law abiding enough to pull over when she spotted them chasing her. (And had she not already known they were fakes she would have.) One of the so-called officers would have distracted her with the pretense of checking her license and registration while the other would ambush her with a taser. They would have taken the X-Man down simple and easy.  But that gambit failed as SHE ambushed them first with a dazzleburst.

Another group of faux police tried to stop the motorcycling mutant with a roadblock. They opened fire once she was in range. But Ali had decoyed them with a hologram and then broke through with ridiculous ease. Leaping over them like she was Johnny Blaze.

The helicopter, with the sniper, was next. Her force field deflected the bullet and she shot down the chopper.

Thanks to the radio she took from one of the bogus cops Dazz knew of the booby traps that had been set up ahead of her. She avoided them by simply changing streets and riding around them.

Four more choppers and a group of police cars tried to box her in and take her down with a gas attack. Dazzler escaped by blasting into a building and going through a row of them until she was clear of the gas cloud.  In the process she managed to lose her shadow. A helicopter that had been following her since she took out those two fake cops.

After that all pretense of Normaltown U.S.A ended.

She was soon chased by a group on motorcycles wearing armor. Looking like a cross between Darth Vader and a Nazi stormtrooper. The Darth-Nazis were armed with blasters. The dazzleburst couldn't stop them as their helmets somehow protected their eyes. Her force field of solid light was able to protect her from the blasters. It took some effort as she wasn't used to forming two different constructs at once. But Dazzler managed to also form another solid light launch ramp. The same type she used to jump the roadblock. She rode up it and took to the sky. Dissolving it once airborne so none of them could follow. And, like Johnny Blaze again, she did a handstand on the handlebars. Able to finally get a good look at her pursuers she took out each of their bikes with optic bolts.  Ali was back on her seat in time to land.

Someone must have discovered she had a radio. Ali heard the dispatcher order "Code Chameleon" and her radio went silent. She just lost an advantage.

Thanks to her ability to absorb sound she heard the hover platforms. Two of them flanked Dazzler and lobbed explosive grenades ahead of her. Her force field protected her again. But the ride became rocky as the result of shockwaves and busted pavement. She actually had to struggle for control of Ol' Paint. Dazz brought her trusty bike to a stop. She then shot down the platforms with solid photon bolts. She then blasted the Darth-Nazis as they struggled to get out of the wreckage.

She then heard the footsteps. Heavy, METALLIC, footsteps. And the "whir" of mechanics.

A Dreadnaught was charging towards her like a rhino.

"Killer robot. Now they're getting serious."

That thing was built to give even Iron Man a hard time.

"Time for me to get serious, too."

Ali flipped a switch on the bike's console. The hyper-sonic emitter that she had built into Ol' Paint came on line and super-charged her. She couldn't keep it on for long. It was so powerful it would drain its battery in no time flat. And even with her bike's powerful engine it would take forever to recharge.  Hopefully she would only need it for a few seconds.

Dazzler aimed, fired, and knocked the robot's block off. Her super-charged photon bolt sheered the Dreadnaught's head right off its body.

Then came two more.

Dazzler grimaced. "Cut off one head blah blah blah."

They zig-zagged to keep her from getting a good aim.

Dazzler instead formed a light wall. The Dreadnaughts simply leaped over it.

She shot them in mid-jump. Twin photon beams struck them square in the torso, sending them farther up and away. They were pretty much out of sight when she shut off the beams. (And the hyper-sonic emitter.) Maybe C-3PO and R2-D2 would survive the fall back to Earth. Maybe they'd be smashed to bits. At least they were far enough away to not give her anymore trouble.

Then came four more.  Followed by eight. Followed by sixteen. All coming at her at once. Hyper-fast.

"Seriously?"

Dazzler revved up Ol'Paint's engine. She drew in every bit of surrounding sound she could. Then she flipped on the emitter again.  Dazzler visualized, concentrated and created a large rectangle sheet of solid light on the street. And once all 28 robots were tromping on it...

"AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!"

...She made a upward gesture with her arms.  The sheet became a column that carried the Dreadnaughts high into the air. She pushed it as high as she could before the emitter shut down. It's battery drained. She kept pushing it upwards until she was no longer able.

The column flickered out and the 28 Dreadnaughts began to fall back to Earth.

Not wanting to hang around Dazzler took off.  If those things survived the fall or if there were 56 more of them waiting for her then she was screwed. That last stunt drained her.

Ol'Paint's loud engine recharged her but she was nowhere NEAR 100% yet. Fortunately she didn't encounter any more Dreadnaughts.

Ali finally reached her destination without further incident. Of all places it was a church.

Dazzler parked her bike and got off. She wasn't fully charged and kept the motor running, drawing in its sound.  She knew that whatever resistance she faced next would be a hell of a lot tougher than what she dealt with so far. Including the Dreadnaughts.

And as if on cue...

"Hold it right there, genejoke!"

On the rooftop of the church stood a row of six Darth-Nazis with blasters aimed at her.  Ali heard footsteps, not Dreadnaughts thank God, tromping behind her. A quick glance revealed about a half dozen more Darth-Nazis getting into position behind her. All aiming their blaster at her back.

"Scratch the bike's paint and you're in serious trouble." Dazzler said.

The Darth in charge, on the rooftop, started barking orders. "Glow, shimmer, sparkle in any way shape or form and we cut you down, freakshow!"

Doesn't this idiot know I have a force field?

But, then again, Ali knew those blasters were powerful. When that motorcycle group used them on her her power levels were a LOT higher at the time. And she had Ol' Paint at full throttle. The bike's noise constantly feeding her.  Now her levels were a lot lower. And her motorcycle was only idling. It was possible those guns could be too much for her to handle en masse.  Especially if they were now at a higher setting. From phasers on stun to phasers on fragmentize

"Name calling? I expect more professionalism from a man in uniform." Dazzler replied. "Even if it IS the uniform of the a chicken outfit like HYDRA."

"Hands behind your head and on your knees! NOW, mutie!"

"Not gonna happen, Herr Darth." Dazzler smiled. "So let's go for it."
