One of these days, I must get my falconry license, I don't know why I've held off for four years! You truly did capture the beauty of the Harris hawk

I'm also just starting to get my falconry license. In Germany you have to get the hunting license at first to get this you have to make a course which lasts roughly 9 month. And after that you can make a course to get the falconry license. The hunting license I already own and if everything goes well end of may I can call myself to be a falconer And after that I'm also able to get my own bird beside the work in the falconry

How does it work in the USA and do you already have experience with birds of prey?

In america they have federal base rules and then each state makes specific regulations due to the diverse climate. in New York specifically, you must take the falconry exam. it is 100 questions and to pass you must score at least 80% Then: 1.Take New York State Hunter Safety Education Class
-Contact NYSDEC Regional Office for schedule of available classes
2.Purchase a NYS small game license
3.Find a Sponsor and build a proper mew and have it inspected.
If everything goes smoothly you then can capture your first raptor with your sponsor.

My experience with raptors is unique. We have a guy who hunts on horseback and brings his falcon along. He raises red tails and harris hawks. I went riding with him and he taught me how so i kinda fell into it.
