A gentleman I met in Chipley, FL, Marcel Albert, flew the Yak-3 in the Normandie-Nieman regiment on the Russian front in WWII. He shot down 23 enemies on two fronts and was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, almost never awarded to foreigners, and the Legion of Honor. He was France's second-highest scoring ace of WWII. I had the honor of covering his funeral, where officers from France and Russia spoke.
