Description
I have a new piece up for this 5th day of my Drawvember challenge, & it's one that celebrates Australian wildlife & also features some humor that biologists & zoologists will get a good kick out of!
Australia has a lot of unique & exotic animals found nowhere else in the world, so it's always fun to draw unusual creatures to begin with. However, there's much more to it than just drawing these animals. I've also incorporated some biology humor, & I need to explain it a bit so that the joke here makes more sense. See, there are three major categories of Mammals regarding the subject of reproduction: Monotremes (mammals that lay eggs), Marsupials (mammals that develop in an exterior pouch), & Placental Mammals (mammals that develop internally inside their mother's womb). The majority of mammals are in the Placental category, but what's cool about Australia is that it is home to all species of Monotremes (which are the Platypus & the Echidna) & most species of Marsupials (this includes Kangaroos, Wombats, Koalas, Bandicoots, & so on... though I do emphasize the word "most", as North America & South America also are home to some Marsupials, mainly the Possum). One of the few Placental mammal species that lives in Australia is the Dingo, which is a wild species of dog & one of the dominant predators of the Australian outback. So, I thought it'd be funny to have a scenario where a Monotreme & a Marsupial ask a Dingo about what it's like being a Placental mammal. So, here we see a Kangaroo & a Platypus approaching a Dingo, & asking him what it's like having a placenta. Naturally, this is a very weird & gross question that one doesn't really give much thought to begin with, & so he reacts appropriately!
Enjoy, & I'll have more Drawgust artwork coming up soon!
